Mr trump keeps surrounding himself with bigots. Why? That’s easy enough to answer. Mr trump’s a bigot.
I think he was trying to give historic context and say when it was written. Overall poorly phrased. Great chance for his political opponents to do their only move: cry bigot and fear monger about nazis. As for the poem, it is not original to the statue. I largely support taking it off because it perverts the original meaning of the artwork.
Legal immigration? Why wouldn't a person want (hopefully) educated people to come legally to our country?
Usually the argument is that a poem isn't any kind of founding document for the country and that's why it shouldn't be quoted to dictate what we should do. Funny to see instead the argument that one bit of artwork is discordant with another piece of artwork. I guess it's like the complaints that arose when Fearless Girl changed people's interpretation of the Charging Bull. This argument makes me wonder, if the poem should be removed because it doesn't agree with the Statue of Liberty, does that imply that the Statue of Liberty is some kind of founding document for the country?
It's not a document. Just don't like seeing people do what is essentially spray painting over a masterpiece for a political agenda.... The girl and the bull thing is similar... though that one is funny because standing in front of a bull market is foolish. The bull is a good thing.
