We lucked out on the radio by replacing an absolute legend (Peterson) with Ackerman, who is very, very good.
Hey, good call. Personally I am still very partial to the Murph over anyone else, but JVG is one of my favorite coaches, basketball personalities and national broadcasters ever. Also, before everyone says it is unrealistic, remember, back when Bill Walton had the national broadcaster role he was also the Clippers broadcaster, and would just take off the games in which he had to do the national broadcast. Bull could fill in for JVG on those games where national broadcasts took precedence over his local responsibilities. Letter Writing campaign anyone?
During the 70s team, even though Bill talked about Calvin for 30 seconds, and you can still feel some chemistry between the two.
The drexlerisms were fun for a while, but he isnt even trying anymore. Bill is a pro, I feel bad for him. Its just embarrassing.
Not defending Clyde, but I must be the only one who doesn't really like Calvin's commentating all that much. Been listening to him when I was younger and his voice just annoy the heck out of me. Not saying Clyde is better (not even close), but I'd rather have someone else than Calvin.
When he pauses, he's just gliding through his commentary. He calls the game just like he played it. Quit hatin.
i really hope that they would take shaq out of the doug/kenny/barkley trio and replace him with jvg. that would be the best.show.waitforit.dary.
Clyde didn't used to be this bad speaking. I don't know if he is trying to put on a front for the camera/mic or if he has had a series of unfortunate mini strokes.
I don't think Calvin was a HOF commenator or anything. But he actually tried, cared, and would offer actual analysis. Plus he was intentionally hilarious. I remember when Kenny Smith or someone shot a perfect swish and he said "Nothing but molecules." I still laugh at that one.
I don't love Clyde, per se, but at least his own children do, and that says something. If they were to bring back Calvin, I would literally never watch them on TV again...
Everybody wants Calvin back, but i remember once upon a time certain people felt that Calvin was a bad commentator also. People used to complain about how much of a biased homer Calvin was when it came to the Rockets. Lol, he rarely complemented another team for making a great play unless the opposing team put us on a very crazy poster.( It used to sound like Calvin would almost cry about it, but at least he still gave props to the opposing team.)
