Maybe Clutch is being cryptic as a tribute to Doc Rocket. Does he know something about LMA?

    Exelent post!
    Agree with everything
so many bad moments, and now the future is so bright.
    Please no Boozer moves (Anderson)
    aldridge, love or nothing
If Por struggle this season probably before the trade deadline they are going to move Aldridge. We have to be ready.

Great article, Clutch! If anyone deserves the warm sunshine of good basketball fortune on the Rockets it is you. This site (and its predecessor) has been a daily constant in my life since 1998. I appreciate it!

Nice article, Clutch. Good take on how Lin may or may not fit the team going forward.

I think Lin is in an awkward position similar to how Scola, Hayes and Battier were a few years ago.

As Clutch notes, Lin was acquired before Harden became a Rocket at a time when the team was in an entirely different situation than they are now. Back then (which isn't long ago at all), the team was trying to take "high risk, high reward" type guys with on-ball skills who might just grow into an elite or near-elite stat stuffing star. Lin, Terrence Williams, Royce White, Terrence Jones, Marcus Morris and Donatas Motiejunas were all arguably risks of this type.

Now, the team has entirely different goals. They have their two stars and need guys who fit in around them. 3 point shooters, defenders, guys who don't need the ball in their hands to make a difference. So, whoever is left from the prior era (now it's just Lin, Jones and DMo, I think) needs to either adapt their game to fit in or risk getting shipped out.

It's kind of like a bizarro version of what happened when Yao (and McGrady) got essentially career ending injuries. The Rockets had a bunch of guys (Hayes, Scola, Battier, Artest...) who were supposed to be the supporting cast of the two stars-- shooters, rebounders, defenders, the type of guys the current Rockets now need. All of a sudden, they didn't fit with the plan any more. So, Artest wasn't brought back. Battier was traded. Hayes was let go after Morey's Nene/Gasol plan fell apart. Scola got amnestied for cap space. All this in the name of cap flexibility, assets, and upside.

I feel very, very comfortable with the long term future of this franchise with Morey as GM. I'm glad Les really likes him ("best GM in sports"). I was really worried last summer that his days were nearly done in Houston. He's only like 41, and I really hope he stays right where he is for 15+ years. There isn't a single GM in the NBA i'd rather have over him.

Even Daryl Morey cannot be beaten by Daryl Morey. [insert picture of Morey staring at Morey]

    Nicely written, thanks.

I can't wait until the season starts. After so many years of mediocrity, it sure feels good to be the Rocket fan.
