The priority, in the end, is to get a 3rd star player.

Since the timing and circumstances at the moment dont seem to lend itself to getting that guy through an Asik deal now, you go for the next best thing which is accumulation of assets that will translate into that star player at a later date.

This means either picks, players that have liquid value as in their contracts and skill-set can be easily moved, or expiring contracts.

The worst thing we could do is obtain players that dont make us much better with contracts that preclude them from being able to be moved later. This is especially true if those contracts lengths have guaranteed money beyond next season.

For these reasons, taking on Courtney Lee makes no sense. His contract is too long, he is overpaid, and while he helps us some in terms of making us better, he doesn't come any where close to being that player that takes us over the top.

At this point, id rather overpay a bit for Millsap as in throwing in 2nd rounders if necessary to get that deal done than anything ive seen in any permeation of a Celtics deal. He is more helpful than Bass or Lee and has the right contract length and size.

The Philly deals seem underwhelming unless we get picks back, which doesn't seem something they are willing to do.

The Celtics deal definitely isn't the best in the world, but people act as if Morey couldn't dump Lee's expiring contract in two years.

Not super relevant, but I have Sullinger on my fantasy team, so please keep Asik away from Boston.

Says no trade today...once Morey heard he had an extra day maybe he figured he would use it.

I wish he would just get with the program and play until a viable trade is available. He's still got another year left. As a backup center, he's so much more valuable to the Rockets hoping to make noise in the playoffs than a lot of other teams right now trying to tank.

Murray's own deadline says he will trade him by today.

Kind of obvious, I know, but DM probably went public with his self-imposed deadline just to see if any serious suitors would come knocking on his door. He probably knew going into this that it may not go down, but he's in a position of power at this point, so no worries if nothing happens. We can definitely afford to wait this out until the right pieces fall into place.

No matter how you look at it, you cannot deny what Omer can do on the court. His presence in the court, when D12 isn't in makes this team so much better in every way. And we even saw glimpses of that earlier on this season. It's crazy to trade a current player for a worse player (all of our trade possibilities). After all this, I think life has been put into perspective for Omer. Hoping he can learn to accept his very important role on this team. His presence is desperately needed with the second team. Only thing keeping this from working is some emotions and feelings...come on...its time to win.

I am not the least bit surprised that a deal could not be completed in a satisfactory manner. Houston was negotiating from a position of weakness. I do give DM credit for not accepting a bad offer.
Now it's time for Asik to man up and play for us, instead of sulking around.
McHale needs to rally the team, establish control and discipline when he gets back.

    Go Houston Rockets!

    Thnx Saleem.

    By Marc Stein | ESPN.com

The Houston Rockets have abruptly ceased trade talks involving Omer Asik and now face the complicated task of trying to re-integrate the unhappy center into their frontcourt rotation, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Rockets moved away from the negotiating table Thursday when it became apparent that they wouldn't find a trade that matches their valuation of Asik before their self-imposed Dec. 19 deadline to move him.

    1) Morey has a reputation now and other GMs were playing hardball to make sure they came out on top.

    2) Rockets had no leverage. Especially with the self-imposed deadline. The auction just didnt fetch good bids.

    3) Price was set too high and no-one really needs Asik at the moment.

    4) Kudos to Morey for not accepting the Boston poo poo platter.

    5) Question is how much of a contribution will Asik make to the team from now until Feb.20 and will his trade value deteriorate much further.
