Here's an interesting look at this, if you can stand all the Warrior knoblicking from Coach Nick and Ronnie Nunn. It makes it very easy to imagine Steve Kerr taking over the reins a couple of years ago and thinking, "Okay, what have I got on this team? I have two outstanding perimeter shooters, a PF with a decent 3-point shot and some passing skills, and a big, immobile center. What if we push the limits regarding screens and create as much space as possible for our shooters? Study some tape and develop a methodology that lets us separate defenders that's not so obvious we'll get caught every time?" So to me, the sad thing isn't that the Warriors try to do this, it's that the refs let THEM do it, but will call Dwight or Capela for far less egregious barely-moving screens. And the thing that pisses me off the most is that many of the people who claim that Harden's style of ball is ugly and hard to watch are the same ones who slobber over the Warriors's "beautiful" game. Harden uses loopholes in the rules to slant them in his favor, whereas the Warriors cheat in a manner that they know won't result in calls from the refs because they studied and designed their offensive system specifically to take advantage of it.
And the rest of the NBA world (media & fans alike) will shrug their shoulders and **** on Houston some more. Babies. Whining. Crying. Sore losers. Who cares? Mention something about Harden & FTs. But everyone else does it! But everyone gets away with something! But you could call [insert NBA rule here] on every play if you really wanted to! While it's unlikely anything is done either way, fans pointing it out will do nothing. Daryl and/or Les and/or John Blair should say something and pay the incoming fine. Or not.
a lot of nba fans are noticing. In most GSW game threads on Reddit, there are a lot of posters complaining with the murder that GSW gets away with. Doubt NBA does anything like the viral Lin flagrant video where they said Lin didn't deserve any flagrant fouls when he clearly was whacked in the face multiple times
The reason the Dubs get away with so much is because the NBA wants to have a "historically great" storyline so they are artificially creating one. Take a good team with a really marketable face of the franchise and let them get away with pretty much anything they want and you have your "historically great" storyline. Curry is a really marketable superstar in that he's pretty relatable to the everyday fan. He's not some giant that gives him a biological advantage that the everyday person can't have. He's really just a super awesome shooter and Joe Blow can fool himself into thinking that if he practices enough, he can do that too. It's a good face for the NBA so they are propping him and his team up.
Excellent video and post...Talk about being EXPOSED. Give a great team an advantage and the sky's the limit. Thank you NBA
Why The Warriors’ Supposedly Illegal Screens Are Actually Some Of The Most Beautiful Parts Of Basketball
Should make a video called. How the Rockets have the worst defense of anyone in the playoffs. Maybe solve some problems.
GS absolutely needs the refs to be effective with their concept and style of play. They shoot threes. Moving screens help their shooters, who already have quick releases as is, more time to shoot the basketball wide open. They've been getting away with this for 3 years. They just got much better at shooting off the picks. It a.so seems Bogut gets away with EVERY flop and EVERY dirty play. This also frustrates the actual players on the court.
You're right. I mean Mark Cuban was able to get Yao for ticky tack stuff. What Bogut does here is 100x worse than what Yao ever did in his picks. I mean, he's basically walking backwards into the defender!
They would just be called. The Rockets aren't the Warriors, the NBA isn't trying to prop the Rockets up so fouls are called. Hell if Dwight set the illegal screens they might be called flagrant.
It is on JBB to call out the refs when he sees a moving screen. Get off your seat, run along the sidelines and scream "MOVING SCREEN" on top of his lungs. Do this everytime. If you get kicked out, no big loss anyway.
link here A player who sets a screen shall not (1) assume a position nearer than a nor-mal step from an opponent, if that opponent is stationary and unaware of the screen-er's position, or (2) make illegal contact with an opponent when he assumes a posi-tion at the side or front of an opponent, or (3) assume a position so near to a moving opponent that illegal contact cannot be avoided by the opponent without changing direction or stopping, or (4) move laterally or toward an opponent being screened, after having assumed a legal position. The screener may move in the same direction and path of the opponent being screened. In (3) above, the speed of the opponent being screened will determine what the screener's stationary position may be. This position will vary and may be one to two normal steps or strides from his opponent.
So, it's a judgement call open for interpretation and the Warriors...being the world champs from last season...will not be called for it more often than not. But, Howard can do the same thing and he will be called for it every time because he is Dwight Howard playing for a crappy Rockets team.
They don't get called for it period, anyone remember the New Orleans series last year? And they weren't even champions then. They've gotten away with it ever since Kerr became their coach. I say we should do it back and expose the referring. Let the refs foul everyone of our team out. We have nothing to lose.
That's not true, usually when Dwight gets called for illegal screens, he's moving TOWARD the player or forward.
