Worst combination of inflexibility and crappy team since Morey's been here

A fantasy offseason:

- Sign Vogel/Van Gundy/Blatt and solid assistants.

- Sign Mike Conley

- Sign Harrison Barnes

- Trade Brewer for cap space, then resign Motiejunas

- Bring in a veteran for the backup C, like Hibbert for instance.

Conley - Beverley
Harden - McDaniels
Barnes - Ariza - Dekker
Motiejunas - Beasley
Capela - Hibbert

That would be a very solid team and it's a possible scenario. Even would be willing to sacrifize Trevor if we need some more cap space. Im OK with KJ/Dekker as backups, Barnes as starter.

What I fear to see by September:

- No Durant, no Conley, no Motiejunas neither.

- Some Kenny Smith as new head coach

- Collective suicide

Thanks for your job, Bima.

I think there's at least a decent chance of using our cap space to complete an imbalanced trade as well. In other words we trade our cap space to another team for an asset that they have plus a contact so they have space to sign someone.

IMO if we lose out on Durant and he re-signs with OKC on the 1+1 deal, then we could tread water with our cap by trading for a player with one season left on their deal. For instance Jeff Teague and a future second rounder or protected first for Capela. Teague is an expiring and fills a need here and we can reclaim the cap space next summer when he is a free agent if we want to.

You'd give up Capela for cap space?? Man you're really down on him.

Teague was awful this postseason. If he had any value left it's gone now. That's not a good trade for us.

I also don't understand why people are high on Barnes. He's not a very good player outside of that system, and he took a step back this year, injury or not. Giving him a max deal is foolish.

I just cited an example. Calm down bulkatron.

Make it #43 for Marc Gasol then.

heeeeellll no. just look for osmeone else. especially after these playoffs, i catn believe he's gonna get so much ****in money. same with conley

with someone like harden, rockets just need another go to scorer and some good role players. none of them will cost the max. horford and conley = good role players. not even go to scorers. and they're getting the max

And when factoring in 6% Georgia State Tax rate, it looks more like this:

Year With Hawks With Rockets
1 $24,417,882 $25,976,470(30)
2 $26,249,223 $27,145,411(31)
3 $28,080,564 $28,314,352(32)
4 $29,911,905 $29,483,293(33)
5 $31,743,245 ———————
Total $140,402,818 $110,919,526

Okay, still a big difference. Take out that final year and its $108,659,573 total for four years with Hawks, against $110,919,526 for team in state with no income tax. Horford would come out on top basically if he could sign a 3 year deal with player option on 4th year, where he likely would decline and do another longer deal.

Keep in mind this math is probably ALL wrong. After I did it, I remembered that this only applies to home games. Away games I believe players technically have to pay tax of whatever state they are playing in. So...I guess numbers would come out less favorable for non income state tax teams. Still, always something to keep in mind.

Because a lot of people believes in his potential.
he is a young 23 (30/5/92)
he can turn into a Lamar Odom
he can improve a lot

Dump Ariza and Brewer. Ariza will be an easy one.

Appreciate the write up. Is there any way Harden can just find out from KD on the low if he's willing to come over to save Morey the time and effort?

I'm confused as to when this 'tv money' kicks in. Is it this off-season, or the next?

Or is it simply starting this off-season and rising again next off-season?

I agree that the above approach (in concept, not necessarily involving trading Capela) would be a viable alternative if/when the Rockets strike out with the top free agents. I just tend not to talk TRADES in these updates, since the possibilities are too numerous to effectively cover. That said, I had planned to talk about this approach (as a backup plan) in my next update, which I plan to write in early July.

The latter.

Thanks, BT.

LMA SnT? Howcum this was first I ever heard of this???

Please, DHo, stay healthy at least until you decline PO.

Do you see a role for DMo as a 4/5 rotation player on next year's Redemption Roster?

LLull - - I could genuinely see him in Memphis next year if Conley were to sign elsewhere. (Llull + Brew = Wright? Works for me.)

Guys who are likely going to be here next year:
Harden, Beverley, Ariza, Capela, McDaniels, Harrell, Dekker, Beasley

Up in the air:
Motiejunas, Terry, Goudelock

Free agents who are probably good as gone:
Howard, Jones, Smith

HELP SOS PLS SOMEONE TAKE HIM AWAY:
Brewer

Short of signing Durant, which just isn't happening, I don't see any moves we can make this summer that will turn us into contenders. I'd rather give our young guys minutes to hopefully develop and wait til next summer when we have more leverage. I think Montrazl could be a monster if we let him play, and I'm still holding out hope for KJ too. Those guys WANT TO PLAY, which is the kind of attitude we were lacking all season.

Beverley/Terry
Harden/FA 3&D Guy
Ariza/KJ
Beasley/Harrell
Capela/DMo

If we strike out on Horford and Durant two of Conley, Whiteside, or Batum would be fine with me. Please God no Barnes. Overrated as hell and not worth the max deal that some idiot team will give him.

Well how else were they going to get him here last year if they did? They opened the doors to it, LMA chose SAS instead.

Don't forget the jock tax. The actual difference ends up being even more nominal.

Haha you're touchy today. I didn't even really call you out, just asked you to explain your reasoning.

Anyway my only point was that Capela can net more value than Teague, either as a player or via trade.

"He can turn into Lamar Odom" is a loaded but accurate analogy. He has multiple tools but often doesn't know how to utilize them all and ends up being a non-factor. This, on a very loaded team that can maximize his talents. He was just not that good this year.

After Dwight opts in, how about Dwight, Brewer and Llull rights to Atlanta for Horford (sign and trade) and Teague?
