    94. Can cash be included as part of a trade package?

Players can be traded for cash, and cash can be included in trade packages. The amount of cash a team can pay or receive per season is limited to the "Maximum Annual Cash Limit," as shown below:

    Season Amount
    2011-12 $3.0 million
    2012-13 $3.1 million
    2013-14 $3.2 million
    2014-15 $3.3 million
    2015-16 $3.4 million
    2016-17 $3.5 million
    2017-18 $3.6 million
    2018-19 $3.7 million
    2019-20 $3.8 million
    2020-21 $3.9 million
There are two separate limits, one for the cash a team pays as part of trades each season, and the other for the cash a team receives as part of trades each season. For example, in 2011-12 a team may pay up to $3 million as part of one trade, and receive $3 million as part of another trade.

Cash is NOT considered when matching salaries under the Traded Player exception. For example, a taxpaying team cannot add $3 million cash to a trade of their $5 million player in order to acquire a $10 million player.

In a sign-and-trade arrangement, if the contract contains a signing bonus, then any amount of this bonus paid by the signing team counts toward the team's Maximum Annual Cash Limit (see question number 88).

That's not the big picture or who the Rockets coaches are looking to emulate.

Asik was our biggest advantage going into this game. His size and youth (energy) is difficult for Duncan to handle. He is the only Rocket with a positive +/- at +6 (other than Douglas at +5 who got the majority of his minutes alongside Asik).

In 24 minutes he still managed to get 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and go 2/4 from the field. He played great defense on Duncan, but when he received 3 quick fouls in a span of 3 minutes at the start of the second quarter the Rockets were forced to take him out. That is when Duncan started taking over the game.

The officials took out our biggest advantage and only player capable of defending Duncan.

I'm sorry for a minute there I thought you said you thought Asik played great defense on Duncan.

Parker was on NBA TV giving the Rockets props for three great games that could have gone either way in his words. He also said we will be a very good team in a couple of years.

It may not be who they want to emulate but it's starting to look more and more like it. A plus is that Rockets are young so they have the fresh legs.

You can't deny that it has been effective. The one thing is that you don't want the same results as the Suns which was that they were always playoff contenders but never good enough to take it all.

Playing a team with equally fast pace, high turnovers are bound to happen. The Spurs had 19, also much more than their season average of 15.5.

Hopefully with more individual game experience and time building chemistry, the Rox will reduce their TOs in the future.

Frustrating loss but still proud of our guys tonight. For those that didn't watch, the Spurs played unbelieveably well, got the benefit of some crucial calls, and we still hung with them for most of the game. This despite missing 7 FT's and 24 turnovers.

Only when Harden sat with his 5th (crappy call) did the Spurs run away.

I hope they aren't too tired for tomorrow night.

With Delfino being out, we really need Morris and/or Cook to hit outside shots, and neither one could buy a basket.

I don't understand not using Dmo to back up Morris. We're just rotating Parsons with a bunch of guards. McHale needs to utilize his PFs while Patterson is out and get Dmo some experience or send him back to the Dleague. Why the hell is he here if he's not playing?

By looking at the play-by-play I see the majority of Duncan's points and rebounds came when Asik was out of the game. Regardless, Asik dominated Duncan on the boards (10 to 5 in 30% less minutes). Asik, Aldrich and Smith are too slow and D-Mo is too raw to guard Duncan. At least Asik gives you a big body and a rebounding advantage. Jones would have helped tonight, but we really missed Patterson.

Well, until you realize that the last the last "great team that has been rolling" they beat was TOR.

You have to be encoraged by the effort. The way the refs helped Duncan and Parker and their hot shooting, the Surs would have won against any team in the league so to push them all the wau and outscore them after quarter time says alot about the chracter of this team.

Defence is pretty poor, but as i said, the Spurs had their best game of the season and we went toe to toe with them on their vaunted home court. This is what wil help this team in the log run. Patience is a virtue.

With TD the Rockets actually reduced the Spurs lead by 3 for most of that period. So the Spurs didn't explode during that time, you could even credit that lineup for killing a complete blowout by the Spurs.

Rewatching the game and just noticed that our guys no longer have a green strip on the jerseys.

    RIP Sasha.

Watching the replay on TV right now. Harden was the ONLY reason we weren't down 30 points in the first quarter. Spurs made it look so easy. Hope the Rockets can get to that point eventually.

The defense is designed to have an extra help defender rotate to the middle from the perimeter on pick and rolls and screens. You'll see Harden, Lin, and Parsons all leave their man to do this. I suspect that the Rockets want to give up perimeter shots so they can run the break on long rebounds and push the pace as much as possible. The drawback is that we give up a lot of open or lightly-contested threes, especially against a good passing team like the Spurs, and unfortunately the Parker/Duncan pick and roll resulted in a quality shot for the Spurs pretty much every time they ran it, regardless of who we had defending it. Harden is not a good defender, but I think some of you are being a bit quick to lay the team's defensive woes at his feet.
