Yes. Get to see Young and the Horns, and then the Rockets Saturday.

    91-83, Rockets win.

    2-0, and undefeated.

    Did you Know?

Jon Barry's 24 points Wednesday was just one point shy of his career high at Atlanta (11/23/01) as a member of the Pistons.

Jon Barry, Tracy McGrady, and Yao Ming were the only Rockets in double figures scoring Wednesday night and they each scored more than 20.

With his 22 points on Wednesday night, Yao Ming has now scored in double digits in 44 straight games which began 1/18/05 vs. Indiana.

The Houston Rockets play host to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets Saturday in the second of three-straight home games to begin the 2005-06 regular season. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the first 5,000 fans will receive life-sized Tracy McGrady growth charts. Those in attendance will also be treated to a performance by “Mig” from “Rock Star: INXS” during halftime.

The Rockets began their season in fine fashion on Wednesday night, defeating the Sacramento Kings 98-89 in front of over 16,000 raucous fans at Toyota Center. Jon Barry led the way for the Rockets with a game-high 24 points, his highest point total as a Rocket. Tracy McGrady added 23, while Yao Ming poured in 22 in just 25 minutes on the floor.

The Hornets enter Saturday 1-1 and on the heels of a loss to Cleveland on the road, 109-87 Wednesday night. New Orleans/Oklahoma City is led by the tag team, point guard combination of rookie Chris Paul and veteran Speedy Claxton. The duo has combined to average almost 30 points and over six assists in the Hornets’ first two games.

Saturday’s game can be seen live on KNWS beginning at 7:30 p.m.

    POSITION BREAKDOWN

    (pts./rbs./asts.)

Point Guard: Rafer Alston (8/2/4) scored all eight of his points in the second half Wednesday and brought energy to the offensive end of the floor. The Rockets will need that energy Saturday as Alston will be matched up with the Hornets' Chris Paul (13/6.5/3.5) and Speedy Claxton (16.5/.5/3). Both are high energy point men. Paul is a dynamic rookie who excels in all facets of the game. Claxton is excellent in the open floor and driving toward the basket. Alston will have to get a body on Paul under the glass as the rookie has shown the ability to rebound early in his NBA career.

Shooting Guard: Derek Anderson (6/2/2) looked comfortable in his role as a spot-up shooter and was strong behind the arc going 2-4 on three-point attempts Wednesday. Jon Barry (24/4/2) proved that he still has plenty to offer in the Rockets' backcourt and will be asked to match his defensive effort Wednesday when he had three steals. J.R. Smith (17/3.5/.3.5) makes up the other part of the youngest backcourt in the NBA for the Hornets. Smith has emerged as a reliable scorer in just his second season leading the Hornets in points per game.

Small Forward: If Tracy McGrady's (23/5/4) knees were bothering him on Wednesday, the Kings couldn't tell. McGrady was everywhere Wednesday night and slid effortlessly into a point forward position when Alston was on the bench. David West (9.5/8/1) is a physical player for the Hornets, who might have trouble staying out of foul trouble against the quicker McGrady.

Power Forward:Juwan Howard (2/9/1) was the victim of some unlucky rolls on the rim Wednesday. Howard looked quick and decisive on the offensive end but couldn't get the ball in the net. However, his defense was critical against the Kings and allowed the Rockets to rebound after taking on a large first quarter deficit. Stromile Swift (6/2) had some offensive highlights but struggled defensively against Sacramento playing both forward and center. Bostjan Nachbar (2.5/1.5/4.5) should allow both Howard and Swift to get going on offense as the third-year player from Slovenia possesses a finesse game that both should be able to exploit.

Center: Despite early foul trouble, Yao Ming (22/10/4) dominated the paint against the Kings on both ends of the floor. Yao's fouls came from being assertive, not from slow feet or bad positioning. It will be interesting to see how P.J. Brown (12/7/1.5) and the Hornets play Yao. Yao should be able to score with any center in the league on his back, so look for Hornets' head coach Byron Scott to instruct Brown to front the Rockets' big man and then rotate help down low. Brown's traditional position is forward, so he will have to be creative in the way he attacks Yao offensively or Dikembe Mutombo (4/6), who was brilliant in 11 minutes Wednesday.
