Nice, I hope Kevin Mchale teaches him some post moves and work on his offensive game. But then again, he will be a rookie. Rookies struggle a lot.

Nice article Clutch. This excites me, having a slightly taller chuck hayes backing up Asik.

Plus, we'll be the first time in NBA history to rock an all-Turkish frontline.

Numbers can be inflated in the Turkish league. The pace of the basketball played there is faster than the leagues from most other countries.

    Nice scoop, Clutch.

    If he comes, we'll have:
    Asik/Smith/Aldemir/(Ohlbrecht)
    Jones/Robinson/Motiejunas/White
    Parson/(Delfino)
    Harden/(Anderson)/(Garcia)
    Lin/Beverley/(Brooks)

Trying to figure out how our roster shakes out is a mess. We've got 8 big men, 7 of which basically would have 0-1 years of experience (that includes Greg Smith, who was basically a rookie). If we somehow miraculously land Howard (or even a Josh Smith/Millsap/Al Jefferson), the picture gets even more convoluted. Meanwhile we're really thin on the wings -- I'm sure we'd love to bring back Delfino and Garcia, but need to first do our other things in free agency.

If bringing him over is in the plans, I'm guessing that some of the roster shakeout has been thought through. Smith seemed to be ahead in the rotation of the rest, but also probably has the lowest ceiling. I'm sure the Rockets would give White away at this point (and even pay his salary), but that may not be possible.

It should make for an interesting offseason. Then again, I remember when we said that about the offseason where Chris Webber was a free agent.

We'd have a reliable third big and would make sure we don't have a huge drop off in paint defense when Asik goes to the bench. Now we just need a stretch starting PF #TerrenceJones.

If he's not a 6'8" or shorter PF, I am not interested!

Not quite sure how you can make that claim. The kid is only 21-22 yrs old. Look at Omer's development this year alone. I wouldn't be too quick to judge his ceiling just yet.

That aside, your point is well made. He has a skill that might translate quickly at the next level. Remember what McHale asked TRob to focus on this year?

He's not the physical, down low, PF we need right now. He might need a few years in the D-League to be ready for the NBA. Meanwhile we have Smith, D-Mo, and T-Jones ahead of him. GM Morey has to do a better job of managing the talent that he collected.
I hate it when Morey just gives players away, like 2Pat and Marcus Morris. At least get something of value in return.

Reminds a lot (because of his rebounding abilities) to Felipe Reyes.

I doubt he can defend PFs in the NBA... At the least he can play some backup center minutes.
Don't expect him to maintain those rebounding rates at the NBA, but still can keep being a very solid rebounder; good player off the ball, with good hands (not as Omer); agile pf/c...

He´s 6-10 in shoes, and plays even bigger. He´s long and very active, and plays really hard.
Plays good off the ball, he´s smart off the ball.

Could be helpful. Good pickup by Morey.

Few interesting things about this news-

    1. Can Aldemir be good enough to leapfrog Greg Smith as the backup center moving forward?

    2. This doesn't really spring much hope for Tim Ohlbrecht's future with the Rockets.

    3. Most importantly -

The Rockets seem to be setting themselves up AGAIN for massive depth at the big spots in order to offset a potential trade or sign and trade where they might very well be planning on sending over multiple young big men in a deal.

Right now we can assume this will be the lineup going into training camp-

    PG: Lin, Beverley
    SG: Harden, J. Anderson
    SF: Parsons
    PF: Jones, Motiejunas, Robinson, White
    C: Asik, Smith, Aldemir

+ Free agent signee(assuming would be a big unless CP3)
+ Rookie 2nd round pick(could also be a big potentially)

    Most Likely Out-

-Team option guys- Delfino(painful), Garcia (excruciating), Brooks (disheartening)
    -Ohlbrecht

Thats 14 roster spots taken up already with Royce White being the only question mark for getting cut in training camp to give space to sign someone else instead. If Royce gets cut (high probability) that would give the Rockets 2 open roster spots assuming the Rockets decline the team options on their 3 vets (Delfino, Garcia & Brooks).

Even if the Rookie draftee is a guard or wing the Rockets are going to be very, very thin at the 1, 2, & 3 spot with only 1 presumed roster spot to give up.

Alot of things can change between now, and October, but for right now, it looks like the front office is overloaded ONCE AGAIN with young bigs going into draft night and poised to make a big move ONCE AGAIN.

    Few Thoughts-

-Aldemir IS a tough physical big man. Take away Asik and the Rockets would absolutely be the worst rebounding team in the NBA. That's Aldemir's specialty. Since Smith still hasn't proven that he can be relied upon night in and night out, Aldemir has a real chance at being the backup center next year.

    On the trades-

    - the Rockets ended up getting a player that had a HUGE impact in the playoffs in Garcia. He was a huge pickup for them.
-You have no idea what kind of player Thomas Robinson will be. He had flashes in short time where he looked like the player that should have been drafted 5th in the first round even though he had some bad moments as well like any rookie that landed him out of the rotation in a playoff run.
-You have no idea what kind of player or asset the 2nd round pick will end up being. Going into an offseason where Morey might need to make moves to acquire star #2, believe it or not, but that pick will hold greater value than Marcus Morris.
-The Rockets where not going to give Patterson big money in free agency next year. He's not the answer moving forward as good as he was as a bench big man.

Well — if this snip from the scouting report is any indication . . .

Right now his best attribute is his rebounding ability. Five boards in 16 minutes of EL action is very good. He's put up impressive board numbers playing for Turkey's junior level teams as well. Grabs balls out of his area. Tough on the offensive glass.
