Yeah, I stole this idea from the guys over at spursreport.com who have done this in the past, but it seems like a lot of fun.

Note before we start: This is not a sim league. You don't have to be in the sim league group or understand them to do this. This is simply a mock draft based on our selections as GM's of the teams.

This will take place in the chat on either the night before the draft (June 25) or the day of the draft. (sometime in the afternoon, before it starts) Give me suggestions on which you would prefer. Everyone in the game takes over a team, and acts as their GM on draft night.

This isn't a commitment for weeks at a time, so don't worry if you have a lot of things to do. This is just to see what kind of draft the BBS comes up with if we are choosing for the individual teams (in real time), and to compare it to the real draft.

    Rules

    1. Can you trade? Yes. However, trades must work under the cap. Also, no trading until everyone is in the chat during our draft night. Very few trades happen before the draft anyway, and I don't want to scare away some posters by forcing heavy activity and dedication as a major component of this game.

    2. Attendance in the chat is required. The chat will serve as the "phone lines". We'll post picks in this forum of the BBS (hopefully with some analysis on the reasoning), but the chat will be where I give everyone their time limits, and where you can discuss trades.

    3. If anyone is interested, we can sim a season of this after the draft on NBA Live 2002. I'd create the rookies based on the analysis of strengths and weaknesses by most scouts. This will not turn into a league which requires great participation... all I'm talking about doing is quickly simming a season immediately after the real NBA Draft, and giving out a few awards based on team win/loss improvement, All-Rookie team, Rookie of the Year, and of course playoff and championship victories.

    4. The Rockets are reserved at this time. I'd like to keep them so that one of the "Big 3" (Clutch, Jeff, heyp) can become involved in this, or another very prominent poster.

If you guys don't want to do this, we don't have to, but I think it would be fun and interesting to see how our draft stacks up to the real one. Sign up for teams below. I'll start off by claiming the Memphis Grizzlies, since they have a solid and versatile collection of young talent and pick at one of the pivotal points of the draft.

    I'll take Orlando - mfclark.

Hopefully we'll get a full compliment; I'm running one on another site and have 22 spots filled already, and from past experience it runs a lot better with a full draft.

The draft order in the original post is edited, with BBS names by each pick/team claimed.

Keep joining... as pointed out earlier, we need a full league for this to really accomplish the purpose.

I'm in I will take Minnesota :). J/K I will really take my sim team New Orleans. But if no other big name poster gets in I wouldn't mind playing Carroll Dawson.

As GM of the Golden State Warriors...I officially am throwing a trade out there real early.

    Adonal Foyle and
    Antwan Jamison for

    Jason Collier.

I know theCat is going to feel that this is an unfair trade, but the Rox should get over Collier once Jamison is in uniform.

Original list is edited again... things are looking good right now. I'll give out the Rockets sometime mid-week if we can't lure anyone else into the game. Maybe we should hold a lotto to see who gets the Rockets. ;)

Anyway, keep joining, everyone... we're getting closer.
