Maybe this sounds like a dumb question, but here is what I have been thinking: I know this sounds dumb, but I just can't help but think that these Detriot Pistions of today and last year are that good. There D is clearly what carries them. But, they do not have a bonified-superstar-definate-hall-of-famer. But yet, they win. Somehow, someway, they stick together when no one else thinks it will happen, and they win. Well, remember a little over 10 years ago, we had 1 guy: Hakeem. That was it. Surrounded by role players, there was no way this team could win anything. But certain players kept coming up clutch (i.e. Rob Horry, the 3rd most clutch player in NBA history behind Jordan and West). They stuck together as a team. And they won. I guess I'm asking, did people on the outside of clutch city (I'm saying non Rox fans, I live in Pennsylvania, but I love the Rox) think that they still don't know how we won it all? Do you think that team could have defeated this Detriot team? Maybe it's corny, but that's just me. Thoughts?
I think more people around the country respect Hakeem than Rockets fans realize. Everytime I talk to people around the country...real people, not media...about those teams, they assure me that they felt Hakeem was the best in the game at the time. And it's no surprise when the best player in the league comes up with a championship at the end of the season.
Hakeem's 94-95 playoff run is your answer. Detroit hasn't even...will probably never...play against a player like Hakeem. He would have destroyed that team by himself.
