LOS ANGELES -- Free-agent forward Brian Skinner, a first-round pick of the Los Angeles Clippers 10 years ago, signed with the team on Thursday.

The Clippers reached a deal with the 6-foot-9, 255-pounder, who averaged 3.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 66 games for the Phoenix Suns last season.

    Terms were not announced.

"Brian Skinner is a veteran NBA player who will give us both size and depth in the middle," Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor said in a statement. "We are familiar with Brian, and know that he will be a good fit in his return to the Clippers."

Skinner has averaged 4.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 538 career NBA games with eight teams. He was the 22nd overall pick in the 1998 draft and played his first three professional seasons with the Clippers.

"We are very pleased to add Brian to our front line," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He adds great size, presence and veteran experience to our team."

The 32-year-old Skinner is the latest in a long line of additions to the team this summer, joining Baron Davis, Marcus Camby, Ricky Davis, Jason Hart and first-round draft pick Eric Gordon.

After the brand fiasco the clippers have done well to put together a fairly competitive squad. Actually i think they because brand didnt sign they were able to get all 3 camby, r.davis and skinner.

they were able to fill their roster out better, sure only Davis is the star right now but gordon looks to be good and thorton is a special player too.

playoffs? not a lock of course but i wouldnt be surprised if they are fighting around in that 8-10 spot

Adding Brian Skinner to Ricky Davis, Jason Hart. They are really building a championship roster around BD and Camby.

They won't be the worst team in the conference but it will be another boring season for Clippers fans. We should take a poll on how long it will be before Dunleavy loses the respect of the players. There are several guys on that team he will clash with.

I dunno, the Clippers seem squarely in the having a winning record but not making the playoff range. That being said theres always someone to trade for before Feb.

Having a winning record will put teams very close to the playoffs in the west this year.

If the Clippers, Kings, Warriors, Nuggets and Blazers are all in that bracket (maybe the Suns as well) then there can only be so many wins an losses to shuffle around...

My guess is a 44-45 win season will make the playoffs in the west.

If the draw was equitable, and the west teams played the east teams an equal number of times, with the best 16 records comprising the playoffs, I'd be surprised to see 4 east teams make it.
