Again. There were multiple championship contenders who were beggin him to join them for same money. He was the one who picked us and in essence did us the favour. If he proved to be a valuable cotributor then where are the contract offers? Corey joseph got 7 per!

If he rehabilitated his image where are the contracts.

Free agent forward Wesley Johnson will commit to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources tell RealGM. Terms being discussed.

If Wesley Johnson sign with th floppers, there is no room for Josh.
Unless he sign a Veteran Minimun.

That's why we need a PG.....we miss out on this unique skill when only Harden is lobbing the ball up to him.

This is kind of pointless to argue given the fact that anybody that watches Josh Smith play knows the type of player that he is. A guy that one minute has you ready to chuck your remote across the room, then the next minute has you ready to high-five the guy next to you.

He's a J.R. Smith. Is anybody in their right mind going to argue that helping a team advance to the NBA Finals was bad for their career? No. The same way nobody should seriously try to argue helping a team advance to the WC Finals should carry similar "implications". Playing for the Rockets unquestionably helped him given his reputation when Detroit dumped him. Now people know, despite his warts, he can still be a part of the puzzle. Even for a winning team.

The lack of interest in both players is due to the nature of their games and because coaches can't really trust them. We both know this. These players are very hard to gauge, contractually, coupled with the way that most teams seem to be searching for bargain deals (i.e. Mo Williams, David West) now that the FA market is all but depleted.

So in the end he owe us NOTHING because he ended up exactly in the same situation he was after he was waived. Only vet minimums by contenders.
    :)

Stop trying to put homeristic spins. We didn't do anything for his value AT ALL. The proof is right now infront of our eyes. So no " he owe us" and no " he should be royal" crap.

In fact if I was Josh Smith I would be pissed as hell. Chose the Rockets helped them get to the WCF and then they have this nice mle sitting all nice and cosy and they don't even offer it for me but for a rookie who did nothing. That would be enough reason for me, to see this as ungrafefullness and go elsewhere.

Contracts have nothing to do with past performance, loyalty, likeability, or anything else other than what the market dictates. As players always say, it's a business, and it is.

    lol
This makes no sense. Have you seen what Kobe and Wade got? Or that Kirk hinrich is still getting paid? Or many players who have had one good season get paid? Contracts have nothing to do with past perfomance??? Reallyy??

I don't understand your logic here. If it weren't for his success with us, he would still be seen as a negative on a team. Remember, Josh Smith's shooting season was on track to be the WORST EVER. With our MLE, we would be able to offer him above the vet minimum and he definitely owes his success to the fit he enjoyed with us at the end of the season.

Haha okay. Lesson learned: being a contributor on a WC Finals team is bad for your career. Got it ;)

??? but we have the mle and we don't offer this to him. We offer him just a little above the vet minimum that scrubs or washed up players get. The same other teams offered him right after he was waived and now. Exactly the SAME.
    So wahts' your point?
That we tell him, thanks for your contributions but we judge kj value more than yours so we want you only for almost free. ?

I think playing for the Rockets was a big deal for Josh. Even his dad was talking about how he changed as a person after fitting in with the Rockets. That's not worth millions in an NBA contract, but it's a human thing which Josh Smith won't forget.

On the other side of things, it's a business and him and Morey know it. I'm sure Morey has sat KJ and Smith down and told them he wants to keep both and the best chance he has at doing that with only the MLE is to wait for the market to dictate the price of one of the two, and then immediately offer what's left over to the other player.

What I expect to happen is that someone will offer McDaniels a deal around $4m per season. Rockets will match it. They will offer Josh what they can (I believe $2.1m) and a promise to take care of him next summer.

Think about it. We can't not match a $4m offer to McDaniels. That's half the MLE next summer. Half the value of an average NBA contract. Half the MLE this summer is $2.5m, which is peanuts. For a second year player who showed promise, has excellent athleticism and is a hard worker off the court. You can't let that walk away for this price.

The dream scenario would be no one offers McDaniels significantly more than what we can offer him and match without the MLE, leaving us to offer Smith the full MLE for two years with a team option on the second year or just a one year full MLE. We would have signed Beverley, McDaniels, Brewer and Smith to bargain contracts and still have the flexibility to make a good trade.

    Fingers crossed.

"We need to sigh this guy now. He's a Clipper killer!"

David West just gave up $10 million to chase a ring in SA, what makes Smoove any different? The Spurs are a great example of older players understanding that they eventually need to take a paycut in order to keep a steady flux of young growing talent. I'm not trying to take away from Smoove's talent or importance to this team, but if he's serious about winning and wants to enjoy himself, he needs to swallow his pride and resign for less.

Smith, just learns something from David West. The rockets will take care of you next year when lots of money is coming.

Perhaps you should grasp a better understanding of the term "peak" before you start LOL-ing and mocking people?

Josh's peak was in Atlanta. Age has nothing to do with it.

Oh look. Scrub of the highest order Jason Smith just got paid 4.3 million by Orlando. But people here except Smith to take 2.5 mil and be happy and royal. Because we.."rehabilitated" him and "fixed is reputation".
