For Butler... no, definitely not. Availability is a huge part of capability, and Butler is a walking injury risk, imo. But definitely a valuable trade chip... if necessary... down the road.
The last time Carlos unleashed a premature "trade him" spiel was, IIRC, about Harden prior to the 14-15 season, prior him to ripping off a 4 year run of MVP level domination.
wait are u saying clint for lebron and the ball brand (not the player) is all but confirmed? rip worriers
He's still more valuable to us. I love the contract he just signed because it's fair in the current market and will become even better if Capela finds another gear.
Mori had most likely already checked in with a number of teams about Capela's trade value even before the contract was signed. Nothing personal to Capela, that's just what Morey does. His further development is indeed the key. The positive thing is that he did pick up new skills for the 2017-18 season: better on defense, better passing, etc. to add to what he already had. So, if he manages to get even better for the new season... But then again, I am not sure if one of the things he develops is going to be shooting range. Catch & dunk bigs with 50% FT% rarely become competent shooters... So against Golden State his offensive effectiveness is just gonna be limited.
As an analyst I have to say this was the first thing that crossed my mind. His contract is a perfect retrace chip, he has to play his way into staying at this point
The most important thing is that this contract is definitely great value. With that said, i don't think we would move Clint for Butler, unless we also get a good center back in the process which is inda difficult to expect when you're already getting a player like Jimmy, i think if that opportunity comes, we would trade Gordon and other minor assets, imo you trade Clint only for a superstar, like...Kawhi, lol.
Harden wasn't effective in the finals against Miami because they focused on him instead of durant and Westbrook. Capela got the same treatment from the Warriors as they knew he was a key piece to our offense. Now they have to worry about another scorer that can go off at any given night - Melo. That changes our dynamic when it comes to offense. I can't think of anybody that we can trade for 16M that Warriors (Green) won't be able to shutdown.
Maybe if you sign DJ next year to a MLE type deal then you might consider offering up Capela for a Jimmy Butler level talent. Remember Paul and Melo have a short window and Capela was unplayable against the Warriors.
Ryno for Butler. Do it Thibbs. Minn needs more shooting and Ryno is a perfect fit for them. Butler gone means Wiggins finally has more touches to improve his game.
Green is the only person listed that’s better than Capela at defending all 5 positions, and he isn’t actually a center.
Capela wasn't unplayable, he averaged about 27 mins and a double-double per game for the series. Luc Mbah Moute played 55 mins the whole series and yet everyone acts like losing him has doomed the upcoming season.
Capella is a system guy, but I wouldn't trade for Butler unless there is a change in system. Capela plays kind of like Dwight in numbers and offense skills (dunk and no FT skills). Capela is like the AC. in the car engine, Ryno is like the car trunk, GG like rearview mirror, Harden on tires, CP3 the steering wheel and DAntoni V12 engine. We dont have to have A.C., but we will need it in Houston. The trunk is useless in a V12 car. Jimmy Butler is at best a vanity license plate, looks good, but A.C. is more important in a V12 engine.
