Athleticism (Ability to get up and get up very quickly) + Length (Height, but also and especially arm length - 7'-5" wingspan) + B-Ball IQ (Knows where he is, where 'they' are, and how to combine his hop & stretch for a speed advantage) -------equals-------------- Dude can get the ball 5-6ft from the rim and hop up quickly, ratchet down his long a** arms and dunk it before any defender can react. I love the way he dunks. He doesn't need a traditional "good position" to hammer it down.
I'm most impressed with that baseline jumper. If he can become a reliable midrange shooter, he could be very difficult to deal with on the PNR. His form looks good, just needs reps.
Maybe Capela was right all along in wanting to play for the Rockets this year instead of staying in Europe. At least he is getting PT in the D-League, look what the D-League has done for TJones, PPat, DMo, and other players the Rockets have sent down here to the Vipers(RGV).
I'm just happy he came over, had he stayed in Europe I doubt he'd be able to develop his physical attributes so well. He looks way bigger than he did early on in the season.
Yeah, he looked a little gassed out there after that last block. He's young though and with conditioning and strength training, I don't see that being a problem but even so, we wouldn't use him for significant minutes other than to spell Dwight. On the other hand, he may look good to prospective trade partners, should we decide to go that route. I've heard others say he won't be traded, but who knows what's up Morey's sleeve. I saw that Canaan was running the floor pretty well. Any word on his status?
I know players play no d in that league, but Capela is gaining invaluable pt down there. Whenever he is brought up, give him a mild sedative to calm his nerves and he will be good to go.
He didn't look like an NBA player in the D league...looked like he belonged there. No D, jacking up shots, typical D league.
I guess never hear Ibaka and stretch 4 being thrown around When you ask 10 people about Ibaka, if people know him they will either say he's OKC shot blocker and rim protector. No one will say oh he's good at the 3 pt line he's a stretch 4 Capela has a lot of things in common with Ibaka compared to any one else They both come to the league kind of raw from Europe, long, athletic, good at shot blocking and defense
For comparison's sake, ibaka hit 63% FT his rookie year at age 20. I was interested be sure to see a huge athletic 20 year old shooting 68 %FT is impressive. That coupled with a relatively smooth release suggests he'll be at a minimum a decent mid range shooter in 2 years. And then into mid to late 20's his progress will depend on his work ethic. But the tools are there.
