How's Hayes' game these days? I really doubt it's still at the level of his Rocket years. If he's at 80~85% of that level, I'd consider taking him over Dorsey, whom he'd obviously replace. Both are defensive specialists who are limited offensively and can't hit FTs. But Chuck has the better passing skills and, at least a few seasons back, was nimble enough to guard perimeter players. But if his game has dropped off, I'd stick with Dorsey, who is bigger and whom I think is a very solid end of the bench defensive big, despite limitations.
Can never have enough NBA talent on the roster. There were times in recent years where we had to round out our roster with sub-par NBA talent, borderline D-League talent so having a roster full of guys who are suited to playing real NBA minutes is going to be and should be a welcomed thing. There does seem to be trouble brewing ahead with roster spot, though. Why can't the NBA just allow teams to carry 18-20 players, as long as it is under cap restrictions? The league is bigger than ever with talent coming from all over the world, it's time for an increase in roster spots. It would solve a lot of problems with teams losing young talents they wanted to keep but could not due to roster space. If Hayes signs and we plan on resigning JET, Smith and KJ then Morey should have a plan to use Jones, Pap, Prigioni and Johnson for a trade to, preferably, get a point guard. Line up could look like this: Beverley / PG from trade / Terry Harden / Thornton / McDaniels Ariza / Brewer / Dekker DMo / Smith / Harrell Howard / Capela / Hayes If we just get a serviceable back up point guard, I really love this roster. Might not be favorites to win it all, but they will be there in mid to late May for sure. Get a starting caliber point guard and this team can compete with any team in the league. Team would be stacked 2 or 3 deep at every position!
He's a lot slower and chunkier than he was in Houston. He wasnt great last year. I love Chuck but he's not he same guy. Still a plus defender. Probably better than Dorsey. But he's basically a replacement level player these days.
Hayes' shot may be ugly but he can hit them! Other than last year when he shot 54.5% from the foul line (Better than Dorsey, Smith and Howard last year), he has been between 65% to 83% the past 5 seasons. I still remember one game when he was last year where he went 10-10 from the foul line. I shed a tear that game.
I can't tell if this is a guarantee that Dorsey is gone or a backup plan at the 4 in case Smith doesn't re-sign or maybe both. I just have no freaking clue what's going to happen to the roster at this point. But if either or both of those things happen, Hayes is a good 4th or 5th big to have on the roster. While Morey is talking to former Rockets players, you think he could bring back a point guard? Hell, he doesn't even have to get Lowry, Dragic or Brooks. What are Rafer Alston and Moochie Norris doing these days? I just really think the roster needs a competent backup PG.
So when Cyberx said Scola would be returning, he must have really meant Chuck Hayes!! Easy slip up hahaha

I'd like him back only for nostalgia's sake. If the Rockets bring him back they must have some sort of insane genius plan.
