    Keep Hayes.

I can see we build 20+ points lead at half time with all our fire powers, and then play the best defense team of all time to hold the lead in the 3 Q:

    alston/battier/artest/hayes/deke

and then the 4th Q is garbage time for guys like Brooks and Dorsey.

Just Kidding, but I still want to see battier/artest/hayes/deke playing together to scare the **** of the opponents.

Yes, Dorsey has 2 inches on Chuck but also about 20 pounds of muscle.

Even if Dorsey is better than Hayes right away there is still no reason to get rid of Hayes.

Let's break down the positives on Hayes:

    - cheap, short term contract
    - can play starter minutes, can be a bench guy, can be a DNP and there's no problems
    - good locker room guy
    - one of the best defenders in the league

That alone is reason enough to keep him. But when you add in the fact that you probably would get next to nothing in value to trade him away, it's pretty much a no-brainer to keep him.

Any rocket fan knows injuries happen, so there is no point in giving away a proven commodity that can be inserted into the lineup and produce when called upon.

Alston is also a good defender, you forgot to mention him and battier would play the 3, no? I laugh to hear what other teams think at this point. "Man screw this..."

Also, back on Hayes, his ugly FT is a good thing. Cmon now, how many people have you seen get to redo FT's cause other teams jump the gun thinking he already released.

Yes, well said. I can't believe that some "fans" are so short-sighted and stupid.

Chuck Hayes is an excellent defender, paid very cheaply, is a great lockerroom presence, and he might possibly be the best big man in the L when it comes swiping the ball away.

    I say keep him.

He is so important that teams are lining up for his services.
We have not traded him because there are not takers even with his friendly contract.

Or maybe it's because we don't value what the takers are offering in return as much as we value Chuck.

Hayes is now EXACTLY in the role people kept griping for him to be in - a situational specialist who can play occasional big minutes if necessary. Hayes's role might be the least I'm worried about of anyone. See no reason to force him off the team. His experience with this team along with his dependability and effectiveness in limited minutes still has more value than a 2nd round unproven rookie.

Now if Hayes was a free agent not on the team, after the Rockets drafted Dorsey would the Rockets sign Hayes as a free agent? Kinda doubtful...So Dorsey does pose a threat of possible making Hayes expendable as the season goes on. Still, I'm more worried about the health of McGrady, Yao & Landry, Artest's emotions, backup point guard & backup center & now Battier's foot than Hayes

Yeah, what about Sam Cassell when he was a rookie, as far as I remember he was an immediate impact, no need to do a damn thing. Cuttino Mobley taking Matt Bologne's spot. Devin's point is that we have a big roster with a little too many PF's and I agree Chuck Hayes should be the one out.

I'd take Hayes over Dorsey and Landry. Shoot me.

How did Dorsey become a defensive specialist in a month? He couldn't even stop the summer league scrubs, and you think he keep NBA players out of the paint?

Maybe he didn't show it in blocks or steals or whatnot but he sure as hell out rebounded them all.

You are considering what Cassell and Mobley actually did in their first seasons. The fair comparison would be to look at Cassell and Mobley before they played a single NBA game. At that point, nobody knew what they were going to do.

Dorsey. Has. Not. Played. One. Minute. Of. NBA. Basketball. Yet.
