Because it's true. Otherwise it wouldn't have happened. Is Dan Gilbert skillful because the greatest player of his generation was born within a short radius of his franchise? Was LeBron James skillful because they faced only token opposition on the way to the finals? Or was he benefitting from circumstances? Was Golden state skillful that Memphis decided it wanted to go with Hasheem Thabeet in 2009 and it had zero significant injuries all year this year, and any number of other things I can name? To a small point yes, but mostly they were the beneficiary of other events. All of these things require more luck (aka, are the product of random events outside the control of the actors ) than they do skill. It's a natural human reaction to ascribe cause &effects, see patterns etc where none exists. This type of cognitive bias has been researched quite a bit since the late 70s. See the work of Kahneman, Tversky, Thaler and others. So basically your observation is kind of pointless. Yes the Rockets victory required luck. So do all of them, but none more obviously so of course when teams are evenly matched, as I pointed out above. . Congrats for gracing us with this knowledge, easy.
