Chuck Hayes is a dumbass. There is a simple solution to his problem: Just accept the front office spot and then use his front office power to sign himself as a player.
Considering how much Cheke whines and throws e-tantrums, it is even more hilarious that he is calling ANYONE a coward.
Faried is definitely the better athlete. The guy can absolutely soar. But his size is limiting on defense, and his lack of a jumper is very limiting on offense. He's kinda like Corey Brewer, really. What they excel at, they REALLY excel at, but they both have significant flaws in their game. Both need to be on the right team, surrounded by certain types of players, and playing in the right system. I feel like Denver thought Faried was more than he is when they signed him to that extension. Faried is a role player. A plus one, but a role player nonetheless. That's all he was on Team USA, and its all he is in Denver. His strengths don't always outweigh his weaknesses, and he absolutely can't be on the floor in certain matchups (see how DMo destroyed him last year).
I love Hayes as much as the next Rocket fan and am sad to see that it isn't working out .... yet, I was just looking at the 3rd string of our roster and was blown away by the potential market value of the players and after thinking about it for a minute, I realized that Hayes doesn't compare to them, purely from a market value perspective. The following 10 players are pretty much a lock right now to be our rotation going into the season and possibly post-season: C1 - Howard C2 - Capela PF1 - Motiejunas PF2 - Jones SF1 - Ariza SF2 - Brewer SG1 - Harden SG2 - Thornton (for now) PG1 - Lawson PG2 - Beverley In order to upgrade, we need as many great trade chips as possible. Just look at the quality of 3rd stringers that Morey now has vs. what we had before the Lawson trade: _____BEFORE____________ AFTER________ 5. __ Dorsey ____________ n/a 4. __ n/a________________ Harrell (once signed) 3. __ n/a________________ Dekker 2. __ n/a________________ McDaniels 1. __ Johnson / Prigioni ___ Terry Most of those are young, high-value, high-potential chips (obviously not Terry but still a valuable vet to the league). Hayes doesn't fit that mold and should a trade need to happen, he would not be highly sought after by other teams. I think this is partly the angle Morey is coming from in declining his contract in addition to the Hard Cap angle. .
We have 2 backups... I know you guys love D_Mo... But he's not the answer against PF's... Not going to even Mention Mr. Missing in Action himself... We need a starting PF or a good veteran. T_Man
Fair enough, I strongly disagree, but let's go ahead and go along with your way of thinking for the sake of conversation.....not signing a 4th string PF doesn't change that in any way and there's literally no chance of getting a better PF than DMo at this point before the season starts. So I guess you'll just have to deal with it.
You're foolish if you don't think Terry is going to get some solid minutes. He'll probably be the only one that could drain a 3 in certain games.
You don't kill flexibility for an end of the bench guy, and don't be surprised if he changes his mind on that coaching offer.
When was the last time Hayes did any notable defensive work against an opponent when he was not a member of the Rockets? When? Think.... Maybe he wasn't all that thus why he didn't play much on other teams?
I think you're missing the shocking comment behind the comment. He just put Jones ahead of someone on the depth chart But seriously, it is very possible that either of Jones OR DMo become a 'real' starter by the end of the season. And if not, by not hard capping ourselves we are in a better position to make a move to get a starter during the season. Morey is running the team... the men who start the war aren't necessarily the ones who finish it.
Actually even before today's news, the info was Hayes is going to get a partial guaranteed contract from the Rockets only. From the get go, Morey has no intention to offer him a full guaranteed min, and the reason is simple - most likely he will be the 15th men on the bench and really has very little to offer to help this team unless there will be some serious injuries. Hence his contract will be treated as an asset by Morey like a trading chip, just like Prig. And this makes Morey looks bad but it could be just because of Hayes camp was not successfully getting a fully guaranteed contract and then decided to look for better options.
