    Yesterday's wine, yesterday's wine
We're Aging with time, like yesterday's wine

TRUE country. Not the hot garbage that they call "country" for the past 2 decades.

Willie's gonna fire up the good **** for ya tonight.

    No, no, noooooooooooo......man, that sucks.

The wife and I love the album he did with Willie (Pancho and Lefty). And he was a giant of the music scene. AND he was such an influence on other artists.

    RIP, Merle.

We're losing far too many great artists that have made music for decades. Besides the more famous, like Bowie and Merle, a few weeks ago we lost the great Dan Hicks. I meant to start a thread about him and got distracted by the Rockets and the political campaign (not to mention "real life"). It may sound odd to some, but 79 was far too young for Mr. Haggard to leave us, and Dan was 74. Hard to believe, at least for me.

Pancho & Lefty is a Townes Van Zandt song. He died 20 years ago. Willie and Merle covered it, along with a thousand other country singers. Just sayin.

Calling Pancho and Lefty a Willy Nelson/Merle Haggard song is like saying "I Think We're Alone Now" is a great Tiffany hit.

Willy and Merle both have plenty of awesome songs that are actually theirs. No offense to anybody. I just think Van Zandt deserves the credit for the amazing song he wrote.

There are a thousand awesome songs that are actually his. Honestly, I kind of feel bad for him if everybody remembers him for a songs that someone else wrote. He was a great writer.

A couple years back there was an actor named Howard Keel who died. In the 1950's he was a big leading man, especially in musicals. He was the lead in big Hollywood productions of Show Boat, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Kiss Me Kate and others. Really great work. In the last years of his life, I guess he needed money or something, and he had a really minor role on Dallas in the 1970's. When he died, every obituary talked about his bit part on Dallas instead of his amazing leading roles in some of the best, biggest musicals of all time. You would think he was just some schlub character actor who never did anything until he was 70 years old.

But hey, when Willie dies, we can all remember him for his great hit September Song, right? I'm sure that's what he would want his legacy to be, instead of the 50 billion hits that he wrote for himself and others over 40+ years.

I remember him for the songs that I had great times with.

I'm not 50 years old. Everyone's connection with an Artist's songs are personal. I got drunk with my best friend after a nasty breakup and listened to Pancho and Lefty and we had a good time that night. My connection, my experience.

Someone who posts that they love Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" when it's Johnny cash but who the hell knows why they love it more than any other of his songs. That's the power of music.

A sad day for the entire music industry, and the world.

I think I'll jam my greatest hits album on the way to work this evening. "Mama "Tried"

Very sad to hear this. He was one of the greats and it's really sad to see this generation passing away with him, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash gone. We still got Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
