This is more of the same unsubstantial, empty, emotional ranting the Houston columnists are so good at. It's like they have nothing illuminating or insightful to say, but they must write something, so they write this crap. It seems worse in Houston than elsewhere. The writers here have the same tone, the same tendency to use a lot of words to say nothing. It's like they're taking lessons from each other. And this guy Solomon seems especially full of this drivel these days. Please, editors, if your columnists don't have something to say, let them take the day off!

And also the fact that we are not looking to trade our injury prone center and hoping that he will be able to take us to promise land someday?

As much as I want to trade Yao as well, who can we trade him for that will help us out in either the short run or long run? Which team would offer up any comparable talent for a $17 million contract. You act like Morey can actually strut around and pick up all-star trades like they are fruits on trees. Assuming that Les does allow Morey to trade Yao, what is honestly out there for us? Oh I know, with your line of thought we can trade Yao for Dwight! For better or worse, we are stuck with Yao for the immediate future and although he is so easily neutralized, he does have the best offensive abilities of all the centers out there. Seriously, do fans even think things through before they post anymore?

Isn't that how people on the board is acting? I thought Morey is the god of trade.

Morey is getting the praises he doesn't deserve so I don't see anything wrong with questioning him a little.

I am getting annoyed, but at least the Rockets have a lotto pick and have a shot at winning it all next season. No team can challenge the Lakers this season.

    The Rockets can.

Morey is considered a god because he has shown the ability to consistently make good decisions, whether or not that is trading or drafting. He has drafted the likes of Budinger and AB late in the draft. JT is showing promise. Landry, while here, was also an amazing talent for where he was drafted. We also managed to trade a broken down diva, an above average big that many believed to have met his ceiling, and a totally useless undersized PF for Martin (who actually is All-Star), Hill who is a lottery pick and has done quite well, and Jeffries who is a defensive specialist with height. Morey does his research and does not jump the gun and makes good decisions, which certainly makes him a GREAT GM.

And I expect nothing less from him, which makes him just doing his job and not an act of god.

i never agree with anything solomon says but i actually agree, it is kinda sad that no1 isnt the slightest upset and we all have to believe their gona b better next year

no matter the circumstances mediocrity shouldnt b applauded, jus look at the blazers they have been injury-decimated jus as much as us and theyre kickin ass in the postseason without missin a beat

Houston sports is cursed or somethin and as much as i wana believe otherwise its hard to deny it

    Great points.

Imagine a Lakers team without Kobe and Gasol.
A Celtics team without Garnett and Pierce.
And a Cavaliers team... just without LeBron.

For a team of role-players to excel past the .500 mark is a success in it's own right.

Considering how bad most GM's are, just doing his job makes him kind of a god... LOL

Now I understand Morey's tweet about him.

At first I thought it was mean spirited and unprofessional, now I just think it's unprofessional.

No one is applauding mediocrity, we are applauding the effort the rockets have made for what they had. 95% of the time they came out and fought for every single game. What more can you ask for? They bought into Adelmans system and we in the playoff race for 65% of the season. You should be proud that the team didn't play like the Nets or Knicks!

im proud of them but when u think about it, 1 playoff series win in the last 13 years? its ridiculous

im not just talkin about this season, the whole success-or lack thereof- of the org over this past decade has been pathetic and if u dont think so, well u must be one of the brainwashed Rox fans

I support my Houston teams to the end (the Astros not so much anymore, long story) but at some point enuf is enuf, Solomon makes VERY accurate points (for the 1st time ever) and wat am I gona do? say hes wrong? yea rite, Im receptive to obvious facts..

look at the trail blazers, u can argue theyve been hit worse than us, theyve lost Oden, Pryzbilla, Roy, and their startin SF (I cant remember his name) and theyre kickin ass, so yea its frustrating, thats how I feel so wat

The whole "If Morey is as good as people say he is he would have traded Yao's injured ass for an non-injured star" thing is just r****ded.

First, if you are complainig about Yao's injured ass, aren't GMs of other teams also aware of the risk? Why would they give you anything of value for Yao's injured ass.

This kind of talk is so prevalent in sports discussions (on the internet or otherwise)... you know: Our guy sucks! Why don't management trade him for something good?

Second, Morey has done well and we recognize it and praise him for it. None of Morey's fans really say he is omnipotent except maybe jokingly making a video of him a Donnie Walsh. And you people act like anyone who likes Morey must believe he can make other teams give up superstars for nothing, and a GM is only good if he can make other teams give up superstars for nothing.

This is really related to the first point. You people think there is something wrong with managment when they failed to complete fantasy trades you people dreamed up that won't even work on ESPN's trade machine or in NBA 2k10.

He wrote almost the same exact garbage yesterday, so I'd say you agree with him often.

Good god this guy is just TERRIBLE. I cannot believe he is even employed as a sportswriter.

We went to the first round last year, beat our opponents in 6 game (while taking home court from them) and then took the eventual NBA champion to 7 games.

So much vitriol thrown at a writer who may or may not be that good of a journalist, but in this case, I am handing it to Mr. Solomon. The Rockets this year are a mediocre team. Whatever the reasons are for this the fact is that they are-this year. He also put the results of the last decade in context and, indeed, for whatever reason or reasons, the results do not lie. The Rockets have wallowed in mediocrity for a long time now.

We can point at everyone and everything as the culprits, but Mr. Solomon is right in that we fans should never be content. If the Rockets win a title next year, we should enjoy it initially, but then demand that they do it again the next year. They say the NBA is a business, fine, we fans pay our dues for this business so we deserve to demand more. In fairness to my fellow posters in the bbs, most everyone here do not settle for less than championships every year-except for this year when there was no realistic chance of getting there whatsoever.

The Texans had a mediocre season, because they underachieved. The Rockets had a mediocre season, because they overachieved. That's a huge difference, and that's what Queen is ignoring.

PS - Queen is eating this up. I predict a follow up column before the end of the week.
