You know, hindsight is 20/20, but at the time of all the moves Morey made - the high profile ones were pretty well embraced on this site as I recall.

The more criticized ones like picking Brooks or Landry were the ones that turned out best.

Not all his moves worked out - but you can't say Les wasn't trying to build a champion...

What a lot of fans and sportswriters don't realize is that it's almost impossible to build a contender if you don't start from the bottom. And that Morey's hands are tied by the simple fact that the Rockets need to try their best every year.

You can't get your Duncans and Lebrons and Melos of the world without sucking badly. OKC got its talented young core through sucking for many, many seasons. This isn't baseball or football. You can't just "reload" in the NBA unless you get really lucky.

If fans shouldn't accept mediocrity, then we should've embraced crapp instead. If we had hit the bottom of the barrel this year, and end up with a top 5 pick to be used on Wall, Cousins, or trade for a star, we may set ourselves better for next year. But surely that's not what Solomon's saying, right?

Mediocrity = accepting an almost 6'0 SG playing PG as your best player who you don't want to trade if you can get a better player.

    Just joking...........

The Lakers didn't do everything right, but they did several things which set them for a long haul:

    1. Choose Kobe over Shaq
    2. Draft Andrew Bynum
    3. Didn't cave in to Kobe's demands and ship Bynum out for Jermaine O'Neal or Kidd
    4. GASOL TRADE

Raping the Grizz for Gasol by itself balances out the all the stupid things the Lakers have done, it made a playoff team into a contender. Compare that to the Spurs who haven't done anything significant since getting their Big 3.

So that's your argument for a team that tries hard? Because the Blazers spent 22 mill on Andre Miller and 25 mill on Marcus Camby they are a good organization, while because we spend 3 mill on Scola and 3 mill on Brooks we suck, even though Scola and Brooks are arguably better than both Camby and Miller?
