best ever, other then Kenny Smith and Cassel....everybody in rotation played hard defense. Mario the junkyard dog, Mad Max, Horry soon to be Big Shot Bob, OT, Hakeem....all were tops in the league at their positions on defense. Offensively, they were boring as hell but Hakeem made it tolerable. The media hated the Rockets for their low scoring grinding defense. Our current team is the exact opposite. Sure would be nice to be champs that way.
I was a big fan of Sam Cassell and Robert Horry for some reason.....really peeved when they were traded for Charles...
yeah, my wife thought robert horry has very good looking, much more so then Parsons, except for when he opened his mouth, she said he sound like he was dumb as a door knob (Alabama, no surprise there).
The first time I noticed Vernon Maxwell was when he played a game against Rockets for the Spurs. He burned us for like 34 points and the Rockets lost. I was saying to myself 'wow, who is that guy'? At year later he was acquired by the Rockets and I was glad they got him. There are similarities between Maxwell's style of play, and patrick beverly, but Vernon was better all around. He was a better defender, he could shoot, he could drive, and he had moxie, tons of it. He had too much heart, he was out of control. Anyone that would get into an on court beef with MJ, and then look him dead in the eyes, while standing face to face..wow. Beverly is smarter off court. I'm glad we have Beverly. Vernon Maxwell, when he was maintaining good behavior, he was one of the best and one of my favorite. My favorite was hakeem of course.
max's pre-game speech to the team before that game: "...and 48 minutes of tough defense……leave it out on tha floor tonight! leave it out there tonight! everything out there on tha floor baby!!"

i appreciate what he did for us in 94. but he was being a b!tch in 95. screw him. he left his team hanging and we won without him.
He may have matured with time. Hope our players will be inspired by all who made Clutch City possible. Those magical days always live in our hearts, and give us optimism for our future. GO HOUSTON ROCKETS!
As long as he doesn't give them herpes! Just messing around. Maxwell's 3 to seal the deal against NYK was probably the most exhilarating moment of satisfaction as a Rockets fan.

There are many of us that waited a looong time for that first title and went through much heartache .......We absolutely don't sniff it without Vernon. So, while I hear ya, take it out with the trash.
Do you even remember Vernon Maxwell? This is the guy who waved his gun at a dude at lubys for cutting in line or something. He threw a weight at a teammate for pissing him off. So you don't think he'd react adversely for not getting a contract extension after winning a title plus getting his starting job replaced by Clyde ? This is Mad Max not Jeremy Lin. Was it wrong ? Sure. charles Barkley threw a dude out a window for pissing him off at a restaurant . Max was his own enemy. At least he did regret leaving the team and said he didn't deserve a second championship ring . You know mike Tyson and evader Holyfield are good friends. This stuff happened along time ago.
Good to see he's doing well. He wasn't terribly efficient but you never knew when he would go on fire. I still remember exactly where I was watching that 31 point half.
