Rockets to bring in former King Williams
Center to bring much-needed front-court depth

    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

The Rockets are expected to sign free-agent center Justin Williams to a 10-day contract to add front-court depth after the injury to Yao Ming.

Guard/forward Bobby Jones' 10-day contract ends after today's game in Dallas.

Williams, a former Sacramento King, is due in Houston tonight, in time to be on the roster before the Rockets play the Hornets on Saturday night.

If he turns out to be a good contributor against the bigger teams, score another point in favor of the Jackson trade. If we still had Bonzi and Mike James around, we wouldn't have that extra roster spot to add another big.

I swear Morey listens to you guys. Thank god he wasn't in full charge last year or Spanoulis would have been starting.

Great to know we are getting another big. But can he play in the playoffs if we qualify?

I think this guy has the potential to be another Landry. Can you imagine having 2 Landrys on the floor at the same time? Scary.

Of course, that's probably the high end of expectations for the guy. It would still be good if we can just get 10-12 solid minutes a game from him.

Yes. I'm worried a bit about lack of size at the backup wing position. All we got is Luther Head.

Yes. You just have to be waived before March 1st. You can sign at any time I believe.

I think dumping Bobby Jones may open up some opportuities for Gerald.

not sure about that... we have

    bobby jackson
    rafer alston
    aaron brooks
    luther head
    tracy mcgrady
    shane battier
    chuck hayes
    luis scola
    carl landry
    steve novak
    dekembe mutombo

which leaves one spot. I think williams will get it over his 10-game tenure.

novak is really disappointing me, and I think we may have to sit him soon.

Yeah, I guess you're right. He's just going to have to beat out Novak to get an opportunity. That shouldn't be too tall of a task.

    Whatever

No one had the foresight to prevent Yao's injury. Have we not discussed this ad nauseum?

    I like the Williams look-see. ;)
