Got to give Morey some props here. I wasn't a big fan of his draft, but this move is huge for the Rockets. He took a guy who didn't want to play here and turned it into our potential starting Pf and a nice backup C for us.
24 hours on and I am still ecstatic with this deal, I just can't see any downside. The best thing that has come out has been his strong desire to get to the NBA and believes he is ready to get the job done right now.
Of course he is. Other similar examples: In 1995-96, Arvydas Sabonis (in his first year with Portland, at that point past his prime) finished a close 2nd to Damon Stoudamire for ROY. Last year, Jorge Garbajosa (29, from Spain) made the All-Rookie First Team. There's no reason why Scola shouldn't be in a position to at least make the All-Rookie First or Second Team. Given that he'll likely be the fourth or fifth starter on a good team, it will take a STELLAR year on his part for him to have the numbers it will take for him to win ROY.
I'm pumped about this dude, but have you heard of this dude named Kevin Durant? He might be kinda good. Let's be realistic. I think Scola will bring a lot to the team, though.
Good trade for us, but nobody who plays with Yao and Tracy will sniff anything close to Rookie of the Year. There ain't enough touches to go around.
I'm extremely pumped for the season to start. But then again, I was pumped when we got Stro cause I thought he filled all our need for a competent and athletic PF. I hope Scola turns out to be different! At least we know he comes with a heart already in place.
I think I did this right. <script language="JavaScript"> TargetDate = "10/9/2007 7:30 PM"; BackColor = "darkred"; ForeColor = "silver"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hours, %%M%% Minutes, %%S%% Seconds."; FinishMessage = "It is finally here!"; </script> <script language="JavaScript" src="http://scripts.hashemian.com/js/countdown.js"></script>
Wouldn't that be a wait of about 10 years?? Great try. Get it right, and that'd be cool in your signature.
10 years I'm seeing 87 days I'll try and edit the post to fix it. Edit: I edited the post above. Are you still seeing about 10 years? As for the signature, I thought about it but I wasn't sure if it would be ok.
Great move for the Rockets. Even if Scola ends up being a total bust which no one expects to be the case, he isn't costing us any real assets other than cap space. Of course proclaiming him rookie of the year and the rockets as favorites to win it all next year is a bit premature, but this is as good as I can see any GM in the league doing to improve our situation at power forward. Like any trade only time will tell, but the news that he is signing here is certainly welcome after a questionable draft. Certainly the most exciting news of the off season so far.
