I think he tried to be more of a glue guy in his 2nd year, instead of the athlete we saw him be in his rookie year. I hope McHale wasn't the reason for that switch, I liked the rookie Patterson.

if you see the lane open don't throw up that kentucky tornado baby hook! in the words of Bill walton, throw it down big man, throw it down.

Hope he is 100% recovered from his injuries.

I think he might end up surpassing that goal by a lot. But, I can see the point of setting them there. He's got a good, veteran PF ahead of him. To set something attainable on a back-up's minutes makes the goal more realistic and therefore more actionable. If Scola is traded or something, he may get a ton of minutes and a chance to shine. Of course, if we end up with Pau and Dwight Howard or something, he might rot on the pine. There's too much he can't control.

Ahh, Kobe averaged 7, 2, 1 in his rookie season. Smart move then that the fanbase didnt turn on him.

Hes not even through his rookie contract yet. Hes got the physical skills, now he has the motivation. At least give him through his rookie contract to determine wether he will be a real player many years down the road.

I bet this fanbase would run off David Lee too. 6'9" 250lbs, averaged 5 pts and 4rebs his rookie season. Hes averaging 20, 10 6 years later.

Remember a guy named Dirk? He put up 8pts and 3rebs in 21mpg his rookie year.

How quickly you guys can turn on a player. Give him time.

even if his ankle doesn't fully recover and he doesn't regain form i'm sure our front office will be drafting yet another undersized PF in a couple weeks anyways

ZERO PFs in the league last year averaged 16/10/1.5 or better. Only 8 players in the league averaged 10 RPG.

Let's keep the expectations lower. Setting expectations too high will only put pressure on Patterson and make Rockets' fans feel disappointed.

This will be the year to see if the injury was really the cause of the big dropoff. If Ppat is 100% (and I don't know if he is or not) - if he says he's 100% then let's see improvement from his rookie year. I like the fact that he set numbers that are attainable. He will need to get a good amount of playing time to average 13/7 and will also need to improve his defense.

At this point, I can't overcome cynicism. It will take A LOT more than the occasional Rocket's "feel good" story to get me really interested again. So, PP you goofed around last off season and didn't take care business and looked like "you know what" during the regular season. Why don't I feel loads of compassion?

I follow a number of NBA forums and that post of yours I could nominate as the SPTW - stupid post of the week. Boy get a grip on reality or STFU. I will and could explain my reasoning but I don't think you really care.

I like PPat. I really do, but at this point I think we all realize that he's not going to be an all-star calliber player. He's going to be a very good player who plays in the league for a long time, but if a deal is out there this summer to move him I would feel ok with that decision. Look at Brandon Bass with the Celtics and you sort of get an idea of the type of role Patterson will have in the longterm with the right team.

He's a solid jump shooting/space the floor type of big who can give you good team defense and decent rebounding without ever getting lost on the floor or causing issues in the lockeroom. Alot of teams really would love to have him. With Scola coming back and D-Mo coming into the league, Patterson might end up being the odd man out, and a player that brings back decent value in a trade.

That being said, if Scola gets moved then Id like to keep Patterson around for the meanwhile. There are still alot of question marks with D-Mo going forward and at least with Patterson you know what he's capable of, and what he's not.

Absolutely true but NBA championship teams have 1 or 2 all stars and 6 or so quality NBA starters.

I like this guy getting 20ish minutes off our bench.
    That is all.

Trade Scola/Lowry/Dalembert/picks, get ahold of Thomas Robinson, start him and have Patterson back him up. That's okay with me.

I still have high hopes for Patterson. Guy looked awesome his rookie year and looked hurt last year. Expect big things from him.

Im not necessarily talking about him starting on championship calliber team right now this second, but the opportunity might present itself in the near future especially with the new CBA contending teams are going to be front loaded with 2 or 3 big contracts so a guy like Patterson will be valued pretty high as long as he's healthy.

Right now I can think of a few teams that would love to have him in their rotation, but not necessarily as a starter. He's a solid piece, but I think the Rockets will end up having to let him go to give minutes to other players they really see as having more potential in the future. Although I could see them wanting to keep him for at least another season to see if he can take that next step to make himself into an all-star.

He's going to have a long career in the NBA either way, but more than likely I see it as a rotation big on a contending team.

No worries about minutes for Pat, they can always play hik at center. Coach loves him at center. :)
