1 game. We just won 1 game. Let us advance and then we can praise these articles. If he loses this first round then he's obviously not a good coach. If he wins, praise away.

Amazing how people don't realize that the only true X and Os coaches in the NBA are Pop, Budenholzer, Stevens, Thibs, Joeger, and Carlisle. Everyone else is more motivation and ego manager.

Phil Jackson was more motivation. He didn't get the Zen Master moniker because he was out scheming everyone. The Spurs are an aberration in the history of the NBA to have a consistent core roster plus great coaching. The only other time you had a team like that was the 60s and 80s Celtics along with the 80s Lakers before free agency really took hold of the league.

Coach McHale keeping this team in contention with all of the injuries and roster turnover is nothing short of amazing. Add in the fact that he doesn't care if he credits or not makes him very rare these days. He's here to manage egos and entrust his staff to help with adjustments. His model works just like Pops can but you still have to field talent. No one is taking a team of scrubs to a championship.

If you want to stay miserable about the coach, flame away and keep spewing your hate all over the GARM. I will admit, it's sad that this place really becomes untenable now with all the vitriol directed a certain players or coaches by what I hope is just a loud minority.

Disingenuous is the hate that McHale has received all season for taking the most injured team in the NBA and winning the 2nd seed in what was the toughest conference in recent history.

Disingenuous is ignoring all the positives and only looking for any opportunity to point out a negative.

Disingenuous is allowing your anti-McHale bias to remove all reason from any discussion you can have about the man as a coach.

I remember how much criticism Rudy T got over the years for not being an X's & O's coach by people who knew almost nothing about basketball when compared to Rudy T. He got criticized for taking advantage of the rules at the time and turn the game into a 2 man game to take full advantage of Dream on the offensive end of the court. People criticized Rudy T because his brand of basketball was not as aesthetically fun to watch as someone like Rick Adelman's, Princeton hybrid offense that he used. People ignore that fact that Rudy T was an absolute terrific defensive coach.

All Rudy T did was coach the Rockets to consecutive NBA Championships and he still does not get the credit he deserves.

I doubt some people will ever give McHale credit regardless if he wins Championships or not.

Can you imagine the meltdown on the GARM if it existed when the Rockets blew their big 4th quarter leads on the Suns?

It would have been a non-stop verbal assault on Rudy T and his over simplified offense.

The McHale hate is getting really old. No he isn't Pop or Carlisle when it comes to making adjustments. However those are the top in the NBA. McHale has improved greatly over the last few season at making adjustments, and frankly is every bit as good as a majority of coaches now at adjustments, rotations and the such. His X's and O's and just as good or better than coaches that don't get heat such as Doc Rivers, Steve Kerr, Dave Jorger, Terry Stotts and all but a handful of coaches. He is coaching a team without a secondary creator and that limits what they can do. The Rockets have plays they run and they are every bit as effective as all but a handful of teams.

That doesn't even get into what McHale is very strong at. He keeps his players together and on the same page. When is the last time you even heard a whisper of a player complaining? McHale gets his players to play hard and contrary to what some think, overall consistently. The Rockets over the last few years have become more consistent. It isn't entirely luck that the Rockets avoided any long losing streaks this season without half their starting line up for half the year. Likewise they didn't fold after losing two close games to the Spurs. McHale has also developed players very well. Harden, DMO, Jones, Capela, Parsons and others all got minutes when they improved. The players that didn't overall play better like Canaan were shipped out and didn't do much since they left. He also has done a great job integrating players like Josh Smith and Corey Brewer into the rotation and has maximized their effectiveness.

I am not saying McHale is Popovich or even Carlisle. However the advanced stats have this Rockets team at 50-32, and they went 56-26; were the 3rd best team in the NBA in the regular season and did it with serious injuries. McHale won't win COY but he deserves consideration.

Mchale has more bball knowledge in his pinky than you guys put together. Maybe he's not Pops but reading you jokers post about him is like seeing blind men make fun of a one eyed guy. How d **** do you even know what makes up for a good adjustment of not? ABeing an arm chair coach all you can really see is the result not the thought process or decision that went into it.
