There wasnt as many floppers in Chamberlain's or Malone's years.

Yao is whinning about big man falling down when a light breeze passes through the window, not about officials letting others break his back and arms.

Yeah Yao's a crybaby. Nevermind that he's completely right. If Yao was refereed like even eric dampier he'd average 30 easily.

What a stupid article. They have a right to be whinging about it... basically they are being made to play to a different set of rules to the rest of the players in the league and players are allowed to cheat(flop) against them and get away with it. Sorry but I don't see why you should be called a whiner for bringing up a major problem with the game. As Ehter said earlier.. theres a lot more flopping going on now than in the past so it a little different now Mr Solomon.

The first true floppers I remember were those Pistons teams... Laimbeer and Mahorn in particular would flop all the time, as well as do other silly stuff to try and take the opposing team's big man out of the game. Those two did more to hurt the game then any drug-addled draft pick or corrupt ref.

Perhaps you missed the part where he said, "And often the men with the most inches do a little whining, and there’s nothing wrong with that. "

He's not calling them out on it, he's merely saying that whining isn't exclusive to just Yao and Shaq, it's true of many a big men. That said, whining may not quite be the best word to use. Shaq and Yao (especially Yao cause I see him play more) have legitimate reasons to complain about the calls. It's not exactly fair when the same official calls the game one way on one end of the floor, but then does the opposite on the other end. It's not fair when an opposing center does a back flip as soon as Yao brushes him. That kind of crap shouldn't be tolerated in the land of the giants. Course if Yao followed Deke's or Shaq's lead and made opposing centers pay that kind of bulls**t then Yao might not have to worry about the refs making horrible calls at all.

The game is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Big men are now penalized for being big and strong. The league wants 7 footers shooting jumpers and doing cross-over dribbles and not shooting hooks shots or throwing down dunks.

Solomon should write a column calling Roy Oswalt a baby for crying about steroids in baseball.

flopping is for wimps. if you can't D up on a guy, then guard someone more your size/speed. it's one thing to try and take a charge, but pretending to be knocked to the ground is weak. go play baseball.

    Exactly.

Whiners ought to differentiate whining and being voice. If Yao doesn't voice this out, people would open a thread and whine about how quiet he is. It's always a lose-lose situation.

Yao or Shaq would be a lot less upset with all the missed calls(both for and against them) if they didnt have to deal with the flopping calls that are ALWAYS a missed call against them.

Big men take more punishment sure, but they can handle it. The part they cant control is when they DONT dish out much punishment and the other player acts like Shaq or Yao have hip cannons.

"They should check the club level for snipers!"

-- Matt Bullard after Mehmet Okur gets launched across the lane by a pivot by Yao.
