Yep. Only been on one, and that was enough. I like being independent when traveling to new places.

I've never been on a cruise but I wouldn't mind trying it sometime. Friends tell me there's a lot of activities on them (and tons of food apparently), but I'm mostly interested on seeing what it's like to be out on the open water and different ports.

Food. Lots of it. Lots of SUN. Shows, casino, comedy shows etc. Pool side entertainment. Non stop service (bringing you drinks while out in a hot tub or in the sun).

Seeing places I would other wise not see. etc.

I love them. Been on 3, 1 up in Alaska, 1 eastern and 1 western Caribbean.

I never get tired of laying out on the deck looking at endless blue water.....and the endless amount of drinks while out there.

I've been on one cruise, and it was a Disney cruise. It was first class all the way. Disney does it right. My kids had a blast, and it wasn't a problem to cut them loose on the ship while the wife and I visited the adult only areas.

If you have kids, then Disney is the way to go.

Exactly what I was gonna say

I've only been on one cruise (Greek Islands + Croatia and Venice Port)

Just an amazing time, I would Galveston to have more cruise options

I've never been on one, and I've been consistently opposed to it (just doesn't seem like my cup of tea). However, my wife wants to go on one, we have an almost three year old, I have other members of the family who keep trying to push it, and my resolve is starting to falter. This will probably seal the deal. I've heard nothing but positive reviews for Disney cruises, and if I'm gonna go, it had better be nice.

This also makes me happy for my vacation rental property in Galveston. Anything that makes Galveston more of a "destination" is good for me.........and Galveston has really bounced back after Ike.

I have only been on two but from what i have seen it makes you feel less guilty about just hanging out at the "hotel" and eating yourself to death all day. If you flew too Jamaica and spent 5 days getting loaded and eating at the hotel and two days going out for a few hours you would feel it was a wasted trip. If you sail for 5 days and spend two days on shore then its all good because the other days your were doing something.

The timeless classic, Take you on Cruise, was released by New York mega group Interpol, in 2004 on their sophomore album Antics. This album was the follow up to Turn on the Bright Lights, which many consider one of the best albums of the 2000's decade and one of the finest albums ever made. Antics held up its own and rightfully achieved an 8.5/10 on indie website Pitchfork. This is a solid rating in its own regard, but didn't achieve the 9.5/10 rating Turn on the Bright Lights received two years earlier in 2002. The tale of Take you on a Cruise continues in Interpol's fondness of nautical themes. In the song, lead singer Paul Banks describes a gentleman on a ship who is trying to woo the girl of his dreams.

    This.

Cruises are not luxury vacations and if you hate being around a lot of people you will hate cruises (they're not elbow to elbow walmart crowded, but the popular activities have a lot of people and there is some waiting to get off at ports).

But they are relatively cheap, and are a particularly good last minute vacation. All you can eat food, the dinners are quite nice, gambling, pools, comedy shows, drinking, etc. Nothing you can't do on land, but you don't have to get on a freeway to get there and on a cruise you spend a few days on nice beaches (and the whole thing is usually cheaper than two plane tickets to the destination).

I think if I was a parent with tweens or teens, I would prefer a cruise. Don't have to worry about what the kids are doing and won't have to drag them around to everything I do.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but depending how sea sick you get also determines how much fun you'll have on a cruise.

Nothing sucks worse than being stuck on a boat with tons of food while throwing up the entire time.

This is great news for the City of Galveston and it's economy. Glad it's happening for them. My most favoritest city on the planet.

I've never really cared for the "at sea" days or the experiences on board (although the food is generally good), but if you're looking for a relatively worry free vacation cruises are very good. I've gone on two European cruises now and it was nice not having to worry about travelling from one location to another/having to find a hotel at every different location and of course the constant packing and unpacking. Basically, I like using them like a floating hotel. You absolutley are more limited as you have very limited amounts of time in each port - but if you can only take a week to 10 days off and want to go abroad, it is a good deal. However if I could take vacations in excess of two weeks, I'd go on my own.

Try pricing it out. An equivalent experience on land is a lot more expensive. (we keep talking about this and so far we haven't been able to come up with something that's on par for the money)

For example, my wife and I took a week long vacation down to Cozumel a few years ago, really had a great time. But with air fair, hotel, food, travel expenses, and anything else, it was well over $3000.

Whereas a couple of years ago we took a 6 day cruise out of Galveston, with stops in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, and it was about $1400 total.

I used to be the biggest anti-cruise guy in the world, but now having been on a couple, and with so many great ships coming into the Houston area, I'm legitimately considering the idea of beginning an annual cruise thing with my family. I mean, who knows... maybe it will lose it's savor after a while. But after the last one we went on (out of Miami with my in-laws), I was ready to go on another one about a week later.

This is good news. I get to go on a Disney cruise without having to travel to another state... and get to do this BEFORE the world ends in 2012! Yay!
DUH, you get to do things you can do on land, but on a ship... and if the waters are rough, you get to try to continue to do things you can do on land on a rocking ship...

    :p
