Im glad that pops made it. he has his limitations, but in my opinion, he is fun to watch. he brings energy and people move out of the way when he dunks
Wrong. We have to buy Barry out in order to make a spot for Pops. Battier Hayes Ariza Brooks Scola Landry Lowry Andersen Budinger Taylor Dorsey Yao McGrady Cook That's 14 without Barry and Pops.
We won't have significant cap space next offseason, even if we just let Tmac walk. Our only chance to retool is to use our expirings to get talented players from cash strapped teams at the deadline. Why give away our expiring contracts for 3rd string PG's? They're our main asset at this point.
Scola,Carl,Chuck,Andersen will be in the rotation IMO. Dorsey doesn't have much value at this moment, this could change if he gets better. Cook has 3.5 M as an expiring contract and could be combined with Joey, but we aren't likely to get value back for them. Tracy is going to stay for now too IMO.
You guys are hilarious talking about Dorsey. The guy is coming off an injury that sidelined him all last year. He wasnt drafted to be a starting PF. He was there to rebound, block shots, and get the occasional dunk in limited minutes... for 800k he's great for that. When you are missing 7'6 and 20 and 10... his 6 fouls and 5-7 rebounds are a bargain. Cook is the same way. He's more valuable as a 3.5M expiring contract than conroy being a 3rd string PG. We have 2 of the top 15-20 PGs in the league... Conroy would have played the same amount of minutes as Cook will... 0... So relax... you guys get way to worked up over non-rotation guys... Morey knows what hes doing...
$10 says that nobody picks up Conroy - he'll be available later in the season should we have a need. Why eat salary now when we don't HAVE to? Dallas traded Nathan Jawaii to Minny - surely a 'minor move' involving Dorsey could happen at some stage? We'll see how it pans out!
they can afford it. there's more to roster management than simple basketball skill. they both have value as contracts and as serviceable bigs.
No need to carry a marginal NBA PG on the roster. If Lowry or Brooks get hurt a competent player can be picked up somewhere. I agree with most the Conroy will probably not get picked up by anyone else so why keep him now. Pops on the other hand can be useful to this team. I know we have more than a handful of undersized post players but they are either unable to play Center (Landry) or will likely be in foul trouble many nights trying to match up with big Centers (Hayes, Scola). Andersen isn't ready to log big minutes so I think having a guy like Pops who works hard and has the athleticism, aggression and will to take on Centers in the paint is an asset.
This latest move is par for the course. I would have wanted for the Rockets to keep Conroy but it really would not make any difference to the Rockets season one way or the other. The current roster is exciting and has a lot of heart but it will not make any noise. A major move by DM during the season would be the only way to alter the dynamics and trajectory of this team. I would wait and see but nonetheless enjoy the Rockets slug it out with the rest of the NBA. Interesting times, indeed.
Conroy will play 0 minutes, if Lowry has perfect health. He was injured in his freshman year and didn't play his first game until December 31st. He was injured after only 10 games in his rookie year and missed the rest of the season. You are depending on Lowry to be in perfect health, while we have 8 PF/C. If one of our 6 foul guys get injured, we can throw another one without needing Pops.
Lowry plays like a linebacker and Brooks is tiny. Good luck with them not missing any time. I guess we can always play Cook or Dorsey at PG, though. Conroy is better than anyone else we would be able to pick up and Cook and Dorsey are worthless. How hard is this to understand?
so you jinxing our PG's get injured now? how hard is it to understand that is RA and Morey think we can go without him, then we can?
