They have a horrible reputation, bad contracts and traded picks. Keeping CP3 who is projected to age well at least gives u an opportunity to have an asset. There would always be a team like the Kings tha twould throw everything to them to trade for him even if he had declined in 2-3 years. Now what they have? There's Lebron out there publicly saying that he would NEVER go to the Clips. Do u think with that reputation they can sign a superstar?

signing an extension would be a dumbest financial move Paul could make. He does not qualify as a Designated Player, so his extensions are limited to 120% of previous year salary ... that is nowhere close to making up the $10m difference in the jump in Max pay. He technically could reach max via a renegotiation of his contract, which has no limit below Max pay....and then combining the renegotiate pay with an extension ... but very few teams could do that, because renegotiated salaries must all fit under the cap. You can't give someone a raise like that using a Bird Exception, for instance. So, maybe you were thinking he was a Designated Player like WB and Harden, etc. He isn't. He has no special extensions at his disposal.

Right, I mean who knows what he is willing to do, but best guess is that the intended outcome here is that he signs his 5 year max with us as a free agent next offseason. He MIGHT have that guaranteed.

It's doubtful if it's even possible to unload Anderson in the first place unless paying a steep price.
