Not funny if you've seen this. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm.../170/2dmg7.html Ahm or you are still entitled, whatever.
If it was one guy who intentionally piloted a commuter ferry, by himself, over the world's most precipitous waterfall, well, once again, some people would find that darkly humorous. The situation you reference was funny to nobody, as far as I know. Dozens of people simply think they're commuting when tragedy strikes? Not absurd, and not funny. One guy thinks he can jump the world's largest man-made structure on bicycle and survive? That's absurd. Whether or not that type of absurdity strikes a chord of humor obviously varies from person to person. Michecon hinted that the government might have somehow forced this guy to jump. If that's true, this is incredibly unfunny, and it's really an execution.
DING DING DING! We have a winner! Of course, that scene couldn't have happened in the ET Special Edition that recently was released on DVD, since all the cops at the end had walkie talkies instead of guns... The funniest part of that pic isn't the biker, but that freaked out looking ET.
I'm wondering if those who think someone dying (despite doing something incredibly stupid) is funny, also thinks that what that ******* Phoenix DJ calling up Flynn Kile is funny, too. Think about it... I'm sorry but I just can't get into laughing about death. I know that is some people's way of handling things they don't like by making a joke out of it; however, to me, thinking this is funny would also mean thinking what happened to Flynn Kile is funny.
"OK, whoever switch my front and rear brakes is going to get their #$%*%# asses kicked!!" Is that you in those pics, BK? You know that back tire is there for a reason, right?
No, I don't mean he is forced. what I mean is that the government should prevent such an event to take place until there is enough security measure. This is obviously organized as an event(judging from the pic), but not on the whimp of a person in a second. The governent should shut that down. There was someone who jumped the Great Wall successfully on a motorcycle. So, maybe they take the security issue a bit too lightly.
B-bob, there was obviously failures at many levels for this thing to happen. From the people who built the ramp structure, to the engineers that set it up, to the organization that sanctioned it, to the rider who may not have been the smartest individual, and to the medical personnel who lifted his barely living body off the ground without the benefit of a stretcher or collar of any sort. I see the humor in the jump and some of the photos people have doctored but I guess it is negated by the end result that I saw with my own eyes. I also have specific issues with a poster who comes in under the guise of a moderator telling me what is appropiate and what is not when their views are skewed by a particular idealogy. That is all.
Its clear in this case that his addiction to Adrenalin was the primary cause for his untimely demise.
Some of the replies about choices remind me of a little lesson that I gave my students yesterday. We watched channel 1, as we always do, and there was a follow up of a teenage girl that had a bad reaction to Ketamine. She went into cardiac arrest for a few minutes and suffered brain damage. The follow up today was showing the biggest Ketamine drug bust in US history and that girl was present at the press conference. The one line that she spoke was "That drug ruined my life" I immediately wrote that on the dry erase board and asked my kids if this was an accurate statement. To my relief, all my soapbox lectures of taking responsibility for your actions have started to sink in. They immediately replied that her choice to take that drug was what ruined her life. We finished the discussion by talking about how every choice you make will have repurcussions, whether they be positive or negative. This brings me to the posts about Bush and this BMX biker. Both of them made their choices. Bush made the choice to take the drugs that she took. The BMX biker made the choice to jump the Great Wall. Bush did not choose to become addicted nor did this biker choose to die. In any case, the initial choices were made by them, and perhaps if they had thought about the repurcussions of their actions, neither would be where they are now. Maybe if everyone would foresee the consequences of their actions, this world would be a better place.
Well, since this thread has ventured into tangents unknown... Where IS Clutch's training camp report for today?
B-ball freak, I hear you. Fair enough. Sounds like you're marginally okay with dark absurdity as long as anything really goes for allowed humor. Tough lines for administrators to sift out, IMO. I missed the other thread. And Michecon, your point makes sense to me. Maybe we should start a new thread about the motorcycle guy. He didn't die, hopefully he's not an addict, and presumably he's not related to the Bush family.
http://www.thetimesnews.com/2001/01-06/01-06-24/don_bolden.html The feat allowed the rider to make his way into the Guinness Book of Records — the only person to have jumped across the Great Wall of China while riding backwards on a motorcycle.
I guess Its ok to make fun of human life as Long as rockHEAD posts it. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32745
