Believe it or not, by contract, Rockets/NBA is actually "borrowing" Yao from China. So if China wants, they could just "take" Yao back anytime...

Good luck convincing the CBA sports officials with that line of logic. Those guys care more about bragging right to get them stay on the job or get promoted in the next year or two. Interests are not aligned.

Exactly, they would never do it, and everyone knows it. They can't even credibly THREATEN Yao with anything.

they should just make yi and sun yue play since these 2 are pretty useless in the nba but should be able to own anyone in asia up when they return.

every one STFU!!!! no politics, please!!!!

First, Yao is not going to play in FIBA!!! Please make this fxxxing fact right in the first place!
Second, The Chinese Basketball Authority has not said that they want Yao to play. ppl in this forum are making the fxxxing assumption that they want Yao to play and would force Yao to play, and if they force Yao to play, Yao would definitely have to play. What a fxxxing assumption!!!
Third, fans in USA want to watch more Yao’s game, ppl in China also deserves to watch Yao, especially when Yao have the chance to play at home. Not everyone in China loves to watch NBA, not even every Rockets game is broadcasted in China. Even worse, all the games are played during office hours, many ppl have very few chances to watch NBA even if they wanted to. but millions more ppl will watch FIBA Asia because their national team is playing, because the game is hosted in China, because it is such a excitement for a normal Chinese citizen to watch Yao play at home, because they have the time to watch. Almost every sports Channel, national or local, will broadcast this coming FIBA games compared to NBA games where very few channels broadcast very few selected games, because millions ppl will watch, Understand????
Fourth, Without Yao, The Chinese Basketball Team is already good enough to beat other national teams in FIBA Asia.
Fifth, if the Chinese Basketball Authority did not require Yao to play, fans in China will understand the decision as it’s for Yao’s good. And if Yao decided not to play when required, fans in China will understand Yao and support Yao for whatever he decides to do. They will not talk about how evil the America is. they will not talk about how damn NBA is. In contrast, you guys are condemning the basketball authority and the whole country based on something that is imaginary. In contrast, you guys are criticizing Yao’s loyalty, which is equivalent to not giving Yao a freedom to make his own decision. What’s wrong for a man with loyalty? Because it conflicts with your interest? What a moral standard.
Cool down. No politics. Everyone deserves to watch Yao. Yao deserves to make his own decision if he needs to. We don’t even know yet whether there is a need for making decison, right?

No need to worry. Yao has it all figured out.
He said before he would have the shoulder surgery this summer, which he postponed due to the Olympics in 2008.

Not even someone with a peanut-sized brain like you would believe that it's your real family name. Do you honestly believe anyone here is as dumb as you? Keep trolling to give me good laughs every day.

Technically from what I know of the deal for Yao, China is pretty much leasing the Rockets and the NBA Yao Ming and should they decide it or the NBA breaks a promise made to them, they can take him right back.

But more then that its nationalism.

Yao was born and raised in China, most of his family was raised in China. Dude is a patriot and wouldn't abandon his home even if it meant he could play a few more years of basketball in the NBA. If he did try to run, he might be like that Korean player that ran away to the US to play for NBA and was exiled, where he had to beg and plead to step foot on his own nations soil. Although, I doubt Yao would do that and really, the Chinese are not just going to throw Yao out on the court with a broken leg.
