The 5 msn defending the rim and paint is a part of team defense. It's a huge part in today's NBA. Ask teams that go up against the Jazz, Warriors, Spurs, etc.

ask them what? their 5 man isn't the primary reason the warriors and spurs are a great team. Jazz are unproven and don't belong in that category

Their 5 msn is a primary reason why they are good to great defensively in the paint and at the rim.

just delusional statements. One person is not the reason a team is great defensively. GS is a great defensive team period not just because of DG. They do it collectively. Which 5 man for the spurs is this great individual defender that just locks it down by himself. dedmon that plays less than 20 mins a game. the rim protector gasol. LA? please. Your individual narratives absolutely makes no sense and you still think along the lines of a 5 "rim protector" making a defense.

One person can be the reason a defense isn't great defensively or even good defensively.

When we switch, then it's Capela guarding the rim? Not often.

When Capela rotates over, then someone else needs to take his place which is an often late Ryan Anderson (PF). We don't have a defensive scheme where Capela is more often than not the sole rim protector.

Then it should be very easy for you to prove your case with them....

Speaking about playoff competition...what's our record against them?

His name is Ryan Anderson, not Clint Capela.... you keep confusing those two players.

Ryan Anderson isn't tasked with being the primary paint and rim protector.

Yes we do. In the playoffs everybody is running a steady diet of pick and rolls.

unless that person just literally stands there and lets guys go by him play after play that's false. And on the other side one person in no way makes a team good defensively. neither of those are realistic in the game of basketball. if you actually truly believe those statements then we're never going to agree what good defense is. leave it at that

He is tasked as the weak side help in our system that is designed to rotate and switch.

What's our defensive rating with Capela off the court?

Capela can be pushed around quite easily and he runs out of gas. Nene will need to peak in the playoffs and log heavier minutes. Team defense is undoubtedly very important, but we don't have any paint protection apart from Nene at this point.

it's funny how quick those expectations can change. I remember reading on this board people say how they would be so happy if he could be come a "DJ-Lite"

really not that hard to be able to be even better than DJ in the coming years because he really isn't that good. The fact that he even became an all star is just a result of how bad the actual C/frontcourt position is these days.

DJ is the all time leader in FG % and has been picked to a really competitive USA team.

Off the top of my head:

    Anthony Davis
    Demarcus Cousins
    Karl Anthony Towns
    Joel Embiid
    Marc Gasol
    Kristaps Porzingis
    Draymond Green
    Lamarcus Aldridge
    Nikola Jokic
    Nerlens Noel.

yeah lots of scrubs out there for sure...

DJ has to rely on a guard for every single shot he takes. Dunking the ball every time, you would think his FG% would be high/ He does nothing on his own and is useless giving him the ball. You are impressed by someone like that? I'm not. He just happens to be good at dunking the ball in a time where guards play a ton of pick and roll. Oh he plays for team usa. So what. So did Faried and Plumlee. I guess with that logic they're just top notch players.

Half that list isn't that impressive. As of this moment I see one winning big that can do a lot on his own and that's Marc Gasol. You're probably one of those that thinks just putting up numbers is what makes you good

ummm he gets picked because look at the list team USA has to choose from at Center.

Just another benefit of how the game is now played in this era.
