Before anyone goes overboard on using the trade exception, there is no way in hell that Les Alexander will cross the luxury tax threshold of around $54 million.

The luxury tax will certainly be in effect with the insane contracts that have been given out this past offseason.

Correction on the luxury tax threshold: it's estimated to be around $58 million for the upcoming season. The Rockets are committed to around $54 million now.

As much money as Les is gonna make with T-Mac, he should just spend some money. (Easy for me to say.)

PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
Houston receives: C Dikembe Mutombo (5.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 23.0 minutes)
PF Tyson Chandler (6.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 0.7 apg in 22.4 minutes)
SF Scottie Pippen (5.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.2 apg in 17.9 minutes)

Chicago trades: C Dikembe Mutombo (5.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 23.0 minutes)
PF Tyson Chandler (6.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 0.7 apg in 22.4 minutes)

PG Tyronn Lue (10.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 4.2 apg in 76 games)
SF Eric Piatkowski (4.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 49 games)

Change in team outlook: +9.1 ppg, -7.3 rpg, and +3.3 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Chicago being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Chicago had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Chicago also gets a draft pick. Then - of course - we waive Pippen immediately.

    Next, we sign Sarunas Jasikevicius.

    PG: Jasikevicius, Ward, Sura
    SG: T-Mac, Jimmy Jackson, Sura
    SF: Chandler, Jimmy Jackson, Boki
    PF: Howard, Chandler, Weatherspoon
    C: Yao Ming, Mutombo, Chandler

    :)

it must be something like Howard+Pike+future picks for Deke+Chandler. Paxson'd love to add veterans like Howard & Pike on his team. Howard could help them big time next season while Chandler still a project eyeing big contract next year. I love Chandler's upside but if he show promise this season can we afford him a big contract while preparing extension for T-Mac & Yao?

IF there is a deal then Pax has to get what he wants, too. JJax instead of Pike? The full TE? Draft picks?

There MAY be an expanded deal here but it will be a whopper if there is.

This is what I am wondering as well. It seemed when the story first broke about a possible Pike for Deke trade, that it was all but a done deal. They needed a veteran SG that could shoot and we needed a backup C. Match salaries and move on. But, as time has gone on and more news coming out that they are still negotiating, makes me think there is something bigger being discussed. Howard, Lue and Gaines will all be availble to package in a trade Sept. 1, so I wonder if we will finally find out something then or shortly after.

Pax is a Howard man, so it has been said.
Curry is a Howard man, so it is said.
Pax is looking for an open roster spot, so it is said.
Pax wants to dump ERob and Cesar T, so it is said.
    Yada yada Yada.
Who knows ??? -- even Berman is mute on this subject.

Did something change since the last time I heard?

Wasnt there a thread discussing the fact that part of the original TE from the RIce trade had been used in the TM deal, and now we have a much smaller one(around 5.5M) instead that doesnt expire till next year?

I notice some posts in this thread talk like we still have the original TE of 6.9M.

EDIT:: http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81993&perpage=30&pagenumber=1 is the thread where it was talked about...
