It wouldn't be a "destructive career choice" at all if it was decriminalized. Instead of treating people in the vice economy like criminals, we'd be praising them for their entrepreneurial spirit. Be a bit more open-minded. Your bias is showing.
1. It doesn't seem like a neglected problem to me. I feel like I've heard a lot of coverage about Chicago's continuing gang problem -- but maybe I'm just more attuned to it because I used to live there. 2. This 'treat them like terrorists' does indeed sound like a semantic shell-game. Is he saying we should ship them to Guantanamo and try them with military tribunals? Have the FBIcrawling over everything to bring federal charges? Maybe use so some enhanced interrogation techniques or render them to third world countries for torture? No. He just wants to see a little more outrage from everyone all the time. And, what exactly will that accomplish?
