We could be the Mavericks...

    Mavs:

PG: Beaubois? (24) - Kidd bolted
    SG: Carter (35) -Terry bolted
    SF: Marion (34)
    PF: Dirk (34)
    C: Haywood (32), Mahinmi (FA)

They are aging, injury prone, and have no young upside guys to build around.

    Rockets:

PG: Lin?, Livingston (26, probably cut), Fortson (24), Machado(20)
SG: Lamb (20), KMart (29, probably traded), Forbes (27)
    SF: Parsons (23), White (21), Morris (22)
    PF: DMo (21), Scola (32, probably traded), PPat(23), T.Jones (20)
    C: Asik?, Leuer (23), Brockman (25)

While I do not agree with all the moves Morey has made so far:

    1) He should have been able to get more for Lowry
    2) I don't agree with dumping Lee for nothing (he had trade value)
    3) I'm on the fence on Dragic. But trading Lowry a day later is head scratching.
    3) The contracts pending for Asik and Lin are way inflated IMO

At least we still have a super YOUNG team with upside!

Aging, injury prone, and no upside, but still better than us (for what is the 13th season in a row).

Pardon me while I go punch a baby.

Yeah let laugh at the mavs. Not like they just won a championship or anything...it's not like that's the ultimate goal and rebuilding after winning is better than rebuilding after doing jack...

Here is a good question. What would Mark Cuban do if Morey were his GM?

And the funny thing is.... all these mavs bashers were mavs fans last year in the finals.

It's too soon to say that it's an awful offseason. It's just annoying not knowing what the heck is gonna happen.

we could end up with a team full of centers? instead of forwards?

    OHHH, NOOOOOO

This must be the worst nightmare since Khan drafted a team full of guards....

Except that Cuban will likely start the fire sale early and not dick around for 3 lost years.

If we don't get Lin this will be the worst off-season in memory -- it could be worse but not by much.

For sure since that's the only avenue left to the Mavs now. However, from where I sit the mood in both Dallas & Houston is about the same - there as many folks lining up in Dallas to roast Cuban as there lining up in Houston to roast Morey.

I just don't get the level of angst around here - it's not as if the Rockets were supposed to be on par with the Spurs or OKC next season anyway. I think that folks' expectations, particularly about getting Howard, just got a little out of hand and the letdown is particularly acute right now.

    It's virtually a given we won't.

Screw the Mavs. Last I checked they have won 1 title and we have won 2.

The Rockets got screwed over with Yao's injury. They built this roster to surround Yao with a strong supporting cast (which they did).

Had he not gotten hurt, Yao is still only 31 and would be in his prime and we'd be in a whole different situation.

It's going to take some time to recover.

this. You couldnt have predicted that your two superstars would crap out at the same time. management has spent so much time trying to salvage that model. This is the first offseason that they officially scrapped the project.

For the next 2 years, I am sure the Mavs will be the better team. But after that, id rather be the Rockets.

But even having said this, its not clear what kind of team we will have come October.
