The more this goes on, the more I think there is something seriously wrong with T-Mack. At first I thought he was just "soft" and not willing to work through the pain of rehab. Look at this info on arthroscopic surgery: Arthroscopic Chondroplasty (Debridement) Using an arthroscopic approach, surgeons locate the damaged chondral tissue and trim away or stabilize the area. This prevents flaking off of the damaged tissue which often irritates the lining of the joint and leads to swelling. This “clean up” surgery of the joint surface is called a chondroplasty. Chondroplasty may relieve pain for a short period of time, but it does not repair the cartilage defect. Marrow Stimulation Repairs (Microfracture) In some cases, the body can be stimulated to produce its own repair tissue through an arthroscopic procedure called microfracture. This procedure is an attempt to repair a small cartilage defect using the body’s own marrow stem cells. This repair tissue develops from cells brought to the area with blood deep in the bone underneath the cartilage. These cells enter through small holes made through the bone by abrasion, drilling, or using a small pic to create microfractures. Think of this as repairing a pothole in the road. Filling in the hole prevents it from widening and involving the entire road. These techniques may be successful in addressing symptoms in some patients In my daughter's case, the arthroscopic surgery did not work as the doc had hoped. The pain was real and no way to play through the pain if there is significant cartilige wear. http://www.carticel.com/patients/tr...knee-surgery&gclid=CIKi-pam15gCFQECGgodwRljcA
you have to think this is beyond tracy's imagination. rest does do him some good. he always comes back and play well for 5-6 games, but then sucks majorly from then on. you can say if he rehabbed it right, he'd be fine by now. but irregardless, he has played NBA ball for over 3-4 months now (took about a month to rest/rehab himself) and there is ZERO improvement. something has to be wrong. playing ball and self-rehab is more than enough rehab to strengthen that knee. if i was him, since it's not microfracture surgery, just get the surgery and end the season now. come back strong and healthy next year.
I guess what I am saying is that it may have nothing to do with "rehabbing it right." If the arthroscopic surgery may not have fixed the problem the way it was intended.
i agree. he's been playing on this knee for too damn long for it to not get any better. this is beyond rehab now. and i think that is what frustrating tracy. maybe he needs to get it fixed surgically again.
I said it in another thread, it is time for Morey to earn his money. Tell Tmac he is out, and you want to do one of two things. 1. Another Arthocopy to have a look around inside the knee - healing time if nothing is found 3 weeks. or 2. He actually sits out and does the prescribed rehab under the team's direction to strengthen the knee. DD
Hmm...so he can play a few games before he regresses and has to rest. Then, he can come back, play a few games, regresses, and has to rest again. Repeat. Lather. Rinse. Just put the guy on IR. Time to move on...at least for this season. How the hell is this team ever going to have chemistry with Tmac in and out of the line-up? All that's going to do is continue messing this team up. I feel for the guy...but he can't play. What else is there to say? He could rest two months, play five games, regress, and then what? Maybe it's time to move on from the Tmac for good? It sucks...but he's a mess.
Here in lies my problem with all the hating. You want him to play hurt... then it gets worse or prevents him from improving and you guys complain that he's a pain in the ass. If we had benched T-Mac when Yao went out last year and allowed him to get surgery and rehab, this would most likely not even be an issue, but since management and "fans" pushed him to press on, it's agitated.
Team chemistry is better without him on the floor. T-Mac should go out for however freakin long it takes. He does seem serious, though. Darn right it's a bad time in his career for this.
With the thing that has gone, these extra months won't help Tmac. There was plenty time to rehab.....if he wanted to. And it's Tmac himself that rules out further surgery, if you listen to his interviews.
This post is unnecessarily rude and offensive. It is one thing thing to criticize a player, but this is completely unacceptable. Clutch - please ban this troll.
People accuse me of hating. Fine. If a player is hurt, he should not play. Period. He should not have played. If he wants to take the rest of the season off, fine. Just don't come back for the playoffs (if there are any).
Except if McGrady actually did what you're saying, most of the fans would hate him for it. And his team would hate him for it as well. The Rockets want him to play hurt. McGrady is not blameless by any stretch, but there really is nothing he could have done without taking a lot of heat from a lot of people.
Something just isn't right. It was never right from the beginning of the season. It does not make sense. He should not be regressing. There is no rational point of view in this situation that explains why we are where we are now, other than there is a problem that hasn't been figured out yet. It's natural with all the pent up vitriol that fans and media types have built up for him over the past few months, to assume that he refuses to do what he takes, but that point of view, frankly, does not make any more sense than the injury itself. Like durvasa said, this is basically the most important season of T-Mac's career. This is basically the season that defines whether he is forever a playoff bust or not. This was supposed to be the season when they finally got it done. Expectations where high. The outcome of this season might possibly even determine whether he ends up being a hall-of-famer or just an also-ran. It does not make sense. Something isn't right. He is clearly frustrated. Everyone else is understandably frustrated, too. Perhaps the team does need to move on ... in the spirit of that oft-(ab)used adage, "hope for the best, prepare for the worst". The conventional wisdom is that this team cannot survive in the playoffs without McGrady. Perhaps it's time to test that wisdom. Lots of people talk about how McGrady needs to find a way to adjust his game to his new physical confines, but that is much harder for anyone than most people realize. You're essentially asking T-Mac to stop being T-Mac. Furthermore, his attempts to fit in without forcing the issue have been at times disastrous -- leading to episodes in which he didn't even realize how bad he looked out there on the court. This is professional basketball. Your knee is everything. If you don't have it, you just can't compete. That's how it is. He might be effective as a half-McGrady in a JV league, but not in today's NBA. I don't blame him for trying to find answers. Frankly, he and the Rockets have no other choice. They have to find answers, and they have to find them fast, or otherwise they'll have to make some very difficult decisions that would likely suck big time for everyone involved.
