As a German <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NNNR8UX7oKk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Dude, you don't sound like a "dick" but you DO sound really young with your ego way to attached to being hardcore. But that's okay. One day you will grow out of the whole "it's not metal if it's not hardcore" attitude (maybe in high school?) and learn to like what you like regardless of what your friends think. And heaven forbid a metal song have a catchy, melodic chorus (like Run to the Hills).
I used to kind of be like that too. If it didn't have THE HEAVIEST ****ING SOUND IN THE WORLD™ and/or had some clean vocals then I couldn't tolerate it. Then I went off metal for a detour through old Radiohead (Amnesiac and Kid A) albums, Pink Floyd (Piper, Meddle, WYWH, The Final Cut), Rush (2112) and others. When I came back to metal, my tastes became more diverse. With that said... I'll respectfully pass on Avenged Sevenfold. Here's a band who has a couple songs I like: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/t0oyCXSd02U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
So the video you posted has really interesting and cool music. But I'm just not into the vocals. To me, Ronnie James Dio or Bruce Dickenson are what I think of as metal singers. Obviously Rob Halford and I have to give Ozzie some respect because he's sung on so many classics. That's probably why I like Avenged. I do understand a lot of people have a problem with them because their newer stuff is more melodic with singing and less "intense" vocals (and I get the general cheesiness... but what metal isn't a little ridiculous?) but, to me, they are a good mix of old school and new school metal.
Yeah, I agree with haymitch's sentiments, and chase's assessment of those vocals. Granted, he names a lot of aged rockers, and you can't just repeat the past, but that Maya dude's vocals are just so typical today, and really ruin for me what was otherwise an interesting metal song. Love the last two notes on the lead.

Well I am glad that I don't sound like a dick. Everyone has an opinion, and that was mine. I like listening to all kinds of music, but metal is my fav., and not all metal that I prefer is just inane screaming and shi!t. I just didn't think the song that were posted were really metal. I want say anything more on the subject, on hope that you will continue to post in this thread whatever you like. I am 29 btw, prolly too old to listen to this ****.
