MJ's effect on the NBA blows away anything LeBron has done. You must be too young to know what the NBA was like back then. MJ took the league to another level in popularity. It was pretty crazy. LeBron's career isn't over but it's extremely doubtful his legacy will sniff MJ's. But you never know.

We can only imagine if MJ was shopping teams as an unrestricted free agent during the peak of his career.

If you leave out LeBron' jerkhead behavior during the summer of 2010 and strictly focus on him leaving the Cavs, I don't blame him one bit. Also don't blame him for leaving Miami. Free agency is a large part of today's NBA and players cannot be faulted for exercising their rights.

One of my faves. Amazing that he contributes the way he does at his age.

I'm sayin if DM offered a better contract, but Marion decided to forgo the money to play with Bron... then it is what it is....
but if Morey is lowballing the vets, trying to get the same sweetheart deals that Cleve is getting, then he's delusional....
I'd like to know where the breakdown is on us getting some depth beyond dleaguers and unproven euros...

adn they probably have more proof of that than you do for the opposite view.

well, not you since none of your posts are to be taken seriously, but maybe someone who posts like you but actually means what they post.

So? That just means less non-NBA fans are watching, which is a direct result of:
    1) salaries of players and greed of owners as well as players including the lock-outs (just think how it looks to outsiders)
    2) Less competitive because there is less talent
    3) games take way too long with more commercials and
    4) NBA is becoming a non-contact sport, so referees whistle more and
    5) flopping (ask any sports fan about basketball and they will you what a whiny bunch of p*****s NBA players are)

No you are complaining Morey did not offer a better contract and you were saying Marion would have accepted a better offer from the Rockets.
We do not know if those assumptions are correct.

You are making assumptions that fit your narrative about Morey. And you complain about others making assumptions that fits their narrative. That is stupid.

Jordan had a more positive and larger overall effect on the NBA. Players following Lebron everywhere shows how different the culture in the NBA among the players is today.

what Cav. needs at this point is to sign DWade and CP, then change their logo to X-Miami Heat or LBJ wagon

Yeah, specific peaks for Jordan and troughs inbetween and a huge drop right after is due to other factors...

I think most hardcore NBA fans are in denial of these points - but I think each one has at least some effect on viewership.

His point with these year-over-year Finals ratings is MJ clearly moved the needle and LeBron didn't (except maybe downward). None of your comments has anything to do with that.

I know, but that's not just because of MJ, that's also how the NBA looked to outsiders. So take my points and see what it looked liked then:
    1. salaries were not over the top, only MJ and maybe a few others stood out but he clearly deserved it (even in the eyes of non basketball fans)
    2. the 90s era was competitive and full of talent, much better than now
    3. commercials were there, but now it's worse with more tv time-outs
    4. the 90s was contact to its max, remember hand checking, and they let players play
    5. flopping was there, but far less and only few got rewarded

In those days it worked to push MJ as the sole face of the NBA and worked because the sport had serious competition, some great rivalries (forgot this point), fights (yes people love to watch a sport where a fight could break out), it was perceived as a man's game and a serious sport (now people feel more and more the game has watered down with the focus on 3pt, big men taken out of the equation and no hand checking). Also Stern has lost viewers with his weird egotistic and dictator like behaviour, giving rise to more conspiracy theories about the NBA being like WWF (the outcome is known beforehand).

It has nothing to do with MJ vs. Lebron, had Lebron lived back then it would've been him who the NBA chose to market like crazy. The reasons I mentioned are exactly why Lebron alone is not enough to generate ratings. The same holds for back then, MJ alone was not enough to generate those type of ratings.

Lebron could be pushed as the face of the NBA, but the contact would need to come back, rivalries would have to be serious (not this buddy buddy culture most stars have now), no superteam formations (yes that had them in the 90s but not the biggest stars wanting to play together, in fact they even openly said they would never play with but rather against them), referees need to swallow their whistle when there's little contact and not reward flopping (just watched an old game and a referee simply signaled that a guy flopped and then followed it up by signaling him to stand up) and something needs to be done to limit the total time of a game. The salaries are not going to be fixed, but when the other things would happen, it would probably not concern many.

Such a long response for nothing. All you need to know is that it WAS JORDAN who generated those ratings back then. Furthermore, you replace Lebron with Jordan in today's game and those ratings, rivalries, culture, trash talking and fierce competition all come back. Lebron's a good kid and I like his homecoming story. He's a nice guy. Aint no way in hell Jordan high fives Drexler after he posterizes Bill Weddington for example like Bron did to George after he posterized Birdman. Jordan was an ******* and you either hated him or loved him but you always tuned in no matter what. Imagine how much bigger Jordan would be in today's game with Social media and ability to watch him more often and on HD etc.
