Waiting for Denver to burst out with "if trade talk don't remain private we are closing all negotiations"

Why should the Knicks even trade for Carmello at all. If that's the only team he wants to play for, the Knicks can just wait until the end of the season and then sign him as a free agent, and not have to give up anything.

Because they want him now,and aren't sure about getting him at the end of the season. Things can change.

In my opinion when the knicks get carmelo they go from a great turnaround right back to being a disappointment. This is because when they get carmelo they supposedly become title contenders, but imo they still wont be able to beat the celts in a 7 game series and they wont be able to beat the heat even though amare will own bosh hard, either lebron will on melo or it will be a wash, and dwade will own the backcourt. Im not even convinced that the knicks will be able to beat the magic, which means the will be fighting for the forth seed with atlanta..........which they would be doing anyway even without the trade. Then theres chicago........

Three team deal between Knicks, Nuggets, Wolves "not close" to happening, sources directly involved in discussions told SI

    ChrisMannixSI
Sources say that while Minnesota is motivated to acquire Anthony Randolph, MIN not interested in moving Brewer/pick in a deal.

Nor would I say that MIN is enamored with also eating (pun definitely intended) the remaining $5M+ of Eddy Curry's $11.2M expiring contract.

That trade makes ZERO sense for the T-Wolves unless they're getting $3M from the Knicks PLUS $3M from the Nuggets.

Luxury tax, already in place. A lot of he big teams are already helping out he small market clubs. Without the luxury tax, smaller teams would be in trouble.

Seriously? I thought the Nuggs were making out like bandits on this trade. Chandler will probably fill 80% of the Melo's shoes, that kid is going to be something special. Brewer is a nice stop gap while they go look for a better SG, and they have two first rounders next year on top of their own.

Melo isn't a legitimate max player, he's just a good player making max money. He shoots way too much, doesn't have a 3 point shot and mails it in every other game. I don't know why the Knicks are so obsessed with him, he can't do anything with a cast as good as the Nuggets, do they think he's gonna go Michael Jordan with a worse cast in NY?

I think the difference is that while we've seen stars demand to be traded before, I don't think we've ever seen them not only demand to be traded, but to ONLY one team. They usually have a list of 3-5 destinations they will accept.

You have to look at the bigger picture.

In come Carmelo, Chris Paul later follows.

Wouldn't there only be about $3 mil left on his contract, if he is traded at the deadline?

There would be 24 games left for the Nuggets.
24/82= 29% of the season left. 0.29 X $11.2 mil = $3.25 mil. The $3 mil from the Knicks covers all but $0.25 mil.

I think Curry's remaining salary would be based on how many games the KNICKS had left, since he would have received his prorated salary from New York up to that point. But I see your point that a deadline day deal would make the total closer to $3M than my $5M figure.

Still, Corey Brewer, a first round pick AND eating even one dollar of Eddy Curry's contract . . . all for Anthony Randolph???

I don't buy it. Even for David Kahn. He could get more for that cap space.

....AND considering Randolph also happens to play the same position as their best player. Hard to see how Kahn would justify this. I think it's a really poor "leaked" trade proposal.

I want the Carmelo drama to finally end as much as anybody, but I'm really gonna be PO'ed if he gets traded for such crap.

Crap. That's what this deal amounts to.

Maybe the Nuggets are confused about the term "cap space" and are hearing "crap space" instead.

    From the Star-Tribune:

Yes, the Wolves still have interest in Randolph, but they'd prefer it to be a straight first-round pick -- they've got protected Grizzlies and Jazz picks due them this summer -- for Randolph deal.

They'd be looking for more if they were the facilitator that makes a Melo-Knicks deal work.

Nice find. This only makes sense. That "rumor" was likely just something the Knicks threw out there. Or the Nuggets, hoping to get other teams to up their offers for Melo. But, still, no freakin' way the T-Wolves do that deal, at the very least, without a TON of cash ($3M each) from New York and Denver.

I don't want this to end. I hope it goes down to the wire.

My pipe dream is that nothing happens.
