How much of their struggling is due to Chandler's absence?

They can't. Denver owns their 2014 draft pick, unprotected.

Ouch. Just when you think the Knicks situation couldn't be any worse, ghosts of their past keep coming back around.

Dolan really needs to step back and let professionals run this operation.

This was the Melo trade though, so I'm sure they would do it again. Probably just put a better team around him.

The Amare deal has/killing that franchise.

Carmelo & Iman get in a "shouting" match

If this is what they're talking about, far from a shouting match.

And Metta-Martin get into a "heated" argument

It's just a mess in New York.

Ahh who the hell am I kidding? This is probably all overblown media-driven headline-clickers stuff. Typical NY media.

    Carmelo-Shumpert fight? Meh

Martin-Metta fight? That could be a real throw down.

it was the Melo deal though - I believe the Knicks had the cap room to sign Melo outright but that offseason but Melo wasnt willing to give up that extra year he would have gotten if he did an extension with Denver so Dolan - not listening to his then GM Donny Walsh forced the trade - giving up the picks plus talent like Gallo and Wilson Chandler to get Melo even though the Knicks were doing perfectly well at the time.

They could have had all that but no -- thats why Walsh left -- Walsh did a great job getting out of the hell the Knicks were thanks to Isiah but then Dolan just put them back into it.

True, but I guess I forgot just how much the Knicks gave up to get Melo. I knew they gutted the team, but it is crazy they gave up unprotected picks too. Especially considering Melo basically said he would only go to New York, it seems like the Knicks could have held on to more of their assets.

If I remember correctly, Donnie Walsh was the GM back then and wanted to stay patient and not give in on Denver's demands-- he would agree to give up some of the pieces Denver wanted, but not the whole farn (Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, draft picks and Felton). His position was that Melo was on an expiring contract and could be signed as a free agent half a season later. Jim Dolan intervened and agreed to Denver's demands. I recall that Dolan was being pushed by Melo's camp to get the deal done early so that Melo could sign an extension and get his money guaranteed before the CBA ends and who knew what the new CBA would bring.

Melo valued his own contract security above all else, including preserving talent and trade assets for his new team. If he is stuck on a bad team, it is really at least partly his fault.

Its hard to win when your best player scores 23 points off of 21 shots (9/21).
