    I really don't see how a deal could be made under the parameters where Ryan Anderson has to be part of deal. I mean Melo's contract is actually better. So how and why from the NYK perspective should they do it?

    If they work a trade instead of a buyout, then the salaries have to match up.
    By absorbing Melo's contract, we'll have to jettison Anderson's salary.
    Anderson doesn't fit NYK current needs, so we're trying to get another team to take him and his salary.
    THAT's where it starts to get complicated. 3rd team takes Anderson and sends other players/salaries to NYK

    And WHY should NYK do it? They either keep a disgruntled star and pay him BIG $$ for the next 2 years while he
    likely underperforms for them wanting to be elsewhere, or they move him and try and get some other pieces.
    Those are their options
