At worse, that's all they suffer?

Nah, try again. Absolutely destroying the image of your franchise, and giving every player who will be a FA over the next 5 years a good reason to tell you 'thanks, but no thanks' is a lot worse than him walking away and getting nothing in return.

The last thing the Knicks should be doing right now is trying to keep a disgruntled all-star on your team while they're trying to simultaneously teach younger players 'the right way' to be a professional athlete.

I mean, as a squad leader, the last thing I wanted was someone who wasn't devoted 100%. The guy could run a 300 PFT, shoot expert on the range, and be advanced at anything and everything related to battle...

But if he's a piece of **** and his piss poor attitude was bringing morale down for everyone else, well, you either have to deal with him, or remove him.

If the Knicks were smart (they aren't), they'd want Melo off the team ASAP before his negativity effects everyone around him, including the young guys they are supposedly building their future with.

If the Knicks were ABSOLUTELY sure Melo wasn't going to pick up his option, and couldn't get any offers for Melo that didn't include taking back crap long-term contracts (eg. Ryan Anderson, Meyers Leonard types)... then holding onto Melo wouldn't be a horrible idea. I think the idea of FA's holding "grudges" against teams because of how they treat players in years past is a little overrated, especially when its NY. Meaning, if the Knicks had to piss off every player and agent for the next two years, in order to rebuild the team to get back to a playoff level on the upside by year 3, then they should do it.

That said, if the Knicks can't come to a trade agreement, and Melo guarantees an opt-out, assuming its possible for him to RIGHT NOW decline his player option, they should have him do that and buy him out.

Because I'm bored I kept reading the Blazers forum. They are convincing each other that the Knicks are either going to keep him or beg him to open trade clause for Portland. They sound pretty sour about him coming here which leads me to be more excited about how good we could be with him here. Best quote so far: "Melo dominated the olympics last year so he is not far past his prime but he needs a team like the Blazers to get back on track"

They were included as a 3rd team, now suddenly they think they are top in the running if he just opens up his NTC to one more team. As if it wouldnt be one of 12 other solid teams most likely in the East he would choose first.

    Annnnd this gem:

"So, to summarize the various positions:

    1. New York is looking to rebuild and would like to move Carmelo's contract for young players with upside and draft picks.
    2. Carmelo is willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Houston or Cleveland.
    3. Houston's only got Ryan Anderson's albatross of a contract to offer in trade, which doesn't fit what NY wants at all.
    4. Cleveland only has Love to offer in trade, but if they were willing to trade Love this deal would have happened a long time ago.
    5. Portland would like to upgrade its roster with a talented veteran, but has zero interest in helping Houston improve by taking Anderson.
    6. New York has a new GM, who they're going to introduce today at a press conference, who is going to get down on his knees and beg Carmelo to expand his list of possible trade destinations.
    7. NBA forums like this one are going ape **** with trade scenarios that could potentially bag Carmelo.

Does that pretty much cover 3,000 plus posts?

So, isn't that a whole lot of hoopla for a guy who is well past his prime and has never lead a team anywhere in the playoffs?"

"You missed the most important one:

    8. Portland landing Anthony would piss Houston fans off to such a degree that they might quit following basketball permanently"

who the hell cares what they think, there's no need for this back and forth between forums. They have every right to have optimism to land whoever they want.

Hell people here actually thought we had a chance to land Durant last season lol

The greatest trick he ever pulled was to convince two fanbases that he was still a superstar worth hair-pulling over.

Portland can't even hang onto their own stars lol. Carmelo would never go there but if he did we would still be better

    1. It's not a Blazers fan
    2. That's not what he looks like

Think about this logically. Who hates Carmelo Anthony? Who hates Carmelo Anthony joining the Rockets?
    you got your answer.

*** Portland. Pathetic 3rd wheel team in a trade scenario thinking they have a chance to land the #1 spot in said scenario to land Melo. Delusional and pathetic imo.

*** Portland and *** their "rights".

The only reason we weren't strong suitors for KD is bc he was ring-coattailing on the Warriors like a sissy instead of going to a really good team that could take down the mighty Warriors. Coattailing b****.

I'm watching the Knicks press conference on Facebook and most of the comments are Knick fans asking to trade Melo.

Seems Knick fans are tired of the hostage situation as well.
