Also, there is no chance in hell we were gonna pay Anderon, Dekker and 2 1st rounders for Melo.

If we were willing to give Anderson and 2 first rounders right now, the Knicks would have pulled the trigger already.

Morey knows what he's doing. He just has to keep his trade package equivalent to Cleveland's, knowing Melo prefers Houston. No need to raise it. Any shrewd negotiator would know that there is no rush. Look at the big picture. Only people on fan sites are in a rush. In reality, we can wait till the final minute of the trade deadline and even if it happens at the deadline, we will receive 100% of the benefit of acquiring Melo. The only benefit of Melo over Anderson comes in the playoffs. We are a historically good offensive team without Melo. Where we need him is where defenses get insane and we need someone to turn from a catch-n-shoot to a "whoa he can take over a game sometimes".

Knicks are trying to make something out of nothing. If Houston has moved above Cleveland as Melo's preferred destination, that means he's sold on playing with us. He is not going to expand that list. Knicks are screwed. At this point, who would be surprised if Melo blocked a trade to Cleveland? I wouldn't be. Knicks are stuck.

So here's what can happen: they can be stupid enough to think they will build UP his trade value by keeping him, or stupid enough to think he will opt out after they screw him out of his 33rd year in life, or they will trade him to us and move on to the Perry era and no one will blame Perry because they know he inherited this garbage.

This is just some typical overconfidence from the Knicks. They want to have screwed up, and now they want someone to clean the mess up for them via these shenanigans. Reality: Ryan Anderson or expiring contracts for Melo is the cost of all their screw ups. They can pay now, or they can let the debt hang over them for a couple of years.

I still believe they might keep him. But they are not getting more in a trade. Anderson and a lotto protected first, or a package with less talent and less dollars than even that. That's what's up.

So..it turned out that PDX in the end had no interest in Anderson.
    Which is the other team?
If they do a trade to get their new GM, then Sacramento is out.

I had been away from bball news for a while, but I expected that the Suns would have pulled Len's QO and made him unrestricted. They haven't which is a little bit strange, since they don't want to pay him and keep him.

I think if a trade for Melo does go down, the Suns will be one of the teams involved. They've got cap space, they are looking to acquire assets, make some changes, and take risks; and both Doc and Codman have mentioned them.

I think Woj is saying that all the speculation about Portland being involved was smoke and mirrors. According to him they were not going to be facilitators.

    Yeah this make sense.

The Suns have one pg to dump (Knight) and Memphis is without a PF since they still don't have a deal with Green and they lost Z.Bo.

    HOU gets Melo

    MEM gets Anderson

    NY gets Knight

PHO gets expirings and small contracts (Memphis has a lot of those)

A 2nd rounder here and there, or a young player should get it done. The Suns are not going to get value out of Knight anyway, getting rid of his contract and getting a 2nd rounder should be enough. As for Memphis yeah, if they cannot resign Green they need a 4 regardless, last season they wanted to play more small etc so, who knows...

EDIT: the Pistons should also be an interesting partner, they want to shake up the roster and Stan should be a fan of Anderson:

    HOU gets Melo

    DET gets Anderson

NY gets Jackson if they want a PG or Harris if they want a SF/PF like Melo

Again, add fillers here and there if needed etc...

That does make sense. Anderson would be a good get for that team IMO. They need shooters around Conley and Gasol.

Except, in this case, many people are actually keeping an eye on the Rockets (if only because they're forced to do so).

    Portland salty denna B

We've made it. Rockets are no longer getting left at the alter. The next super team will be in the great city of Houston, Texas.

Also, I can't see us not parting with our 2020 first round pick and 1 to 2 second round picks.

Anderson contract won't look so bad after this season at 2 yr 40 million in terms of trade value.

portland being intrested in a 33 year old carmelo anthony is a smokescreen... this is adam silver and the nba trying to block this trade. After the pg13 robbery to okc trade and the cousins trade to the pelicans, Im starting to think trades in the NBA are controlled by the league office

Perry gets introduced Monday at 1 pm Which means he probably talks to Melo Monday night and starts resuming trade talks on Tuesday.

Stupid take. If the NBA front office wanted to block us they wouldn't have let us get Chris Paul, an actual superstar, instead of blocking melo a former star.

Thought experiment: If Melo had been a free agent on July 1, 2017. Who would sign him and for how much?
