Wouldn't it be great if someone from the Astros could call up NC St. and politely ask them to chill on the innings. Yes, I know that can't happen. Would be nice, though.
So I am not very knowledgeable about baseball but I am starting to follow the prospects more. It seems to me that Rodon has been solid this year but that his numbers are down from last year. Is that right? Just wondering if he is still a lock for the pick?
His overall numbers are actually very good but he hasn't been lights-out dominant like his reputation would indicate. 4 games, 2.40 era, 30ip, 13r, 8er, 7bb, 30k. 9k/9 is quite good but compared to his 12.5k/9 last year it's down. His ERA last year was 2.99 so his results are better this year. My biggest concern is that he hasn't been consistent within games. One game report I saw said he had his good stuff going early (92-25mph FB and nasty slider) but by the 5-6th inning was throwing 90-92mph with a flat slider. It's still early and sample size is a factor so I still expect him to be the #1 pick.
This. I was told (by someone who would absolutely know) that it's his to lose; that they very obviously like him a lot. And they aren't overly concerned about numbers - well, they are: but not the surface numbers (ERA). They very much understand that he can be every bit as dominant and post worse numbers. They look for speed, BAIBP and a whole host of other metrics. I can't imagine there's a MLB team with a greater depth of metric-related infrastruture; it's really quite impressive what they've built on the operations side.

Ron (Gym) Is Carlos Rodon overrated? Klaw (1:12 PM) He hasn't pitched up to expectations - fastball has been average, command average or a tick below, and he's not missing bats. I thought a month ago he was the clear 1-1 pick, but now I don't see it.

wouldn't mind seeing his coach take his pitch count down a bit from 125, but his frame can handle it, I guess
The way I look at it, he only pitches once every 7 days rather than every 5. So ~120 seems reasonable.
He's the DH in game 2 of a doubleheader. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Hey there you go. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23NCState&src=hash">#NCState</a>'s Carlos Rodon with an RBI single to trim <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23FSU&src=hash">#FSU</a>'s lead to 4-2 in the series finale.</p>— Kendall Rogers (@KendallRogersPG) <a href="https://twitter.com/KendallRogersPG/statuses/444958085598035968">March 15, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Rodon&src=hash">#Rodon</a> officially raking, leads off the <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Pack9&src=hash">#Pack9</a> 7th with a single to right.
