Capela has basically zero shot to ever make an all-star team and ever be considered a "star". Morey shouldn't even be thinking about extending him. While his value is perceived to be high, Morey should ship him.

Nene, a guy who any team could've signed for more money but passed, straight up outperformed Capela for most of the season. Nothing sabotaged the Rockets playoff hopes against the Spurs more than Nene going down. Morey can continue finding cheap centers that can produce most of what Capela can. Zero reason to extend him to a large contract.

Capela is a classic buy low, sell high player.

Dude is 22 years old and almost averaged double double in his 1st year as a starter. Athletic bigs like Capela who can switch onto guards are rare commodities in the NBA. He's definitely a keeper.

LOL.... why would you even throw CC max out there, for what?

Dude has no much more proving to do before the Rocket even consider giving him $10mil+ a year.... this is the year.... you make sure his cap hold and bird rights are in the bag, and then you negotiate at the very end when you really have to.

Settle down a bit there honky. First off, a healthy Nene is a top 5-7 Center in the NBA. We milked that for all it was worth. Keeping that in mind, here are a few numbers.

    1.
Clint season PER - 21.4 Clint playoffs PER - 21.1
Nene season PER - 18.9 Nene playoffs PER - 21.5

    2.
Clint vs the Spurs at 22 years old.
    13.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 2.5 bpg in 6 games.

    3.
That's some high end Center production right there. Maybe instead we should take a look at Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza and Sam Dekker. o_O

    You're not serious right?

In a league with very few big men, Clint Capela continues to improve and contribute at a high level for such a young guy. He definitely has the tools to be an allstar in the NBA. With some more weight on his frame (continues to add muscle year after year), the continued development of his back to the basket game (working with Dream) and become more consistent from the Free Throw line (Much improved this past season) he could easily make the All Star Game.

****Imagine him in the PnR with Paul and Harden, that would be deadly. ****

I'm not going to take anything away from Nene as a player, he was excellent last season... When he played. Clint got injured and bounced back quickly. Losing Nene during the Spurs series did kill us, also the lack of another big man to fill his shoes screwed us as well. You can't expect 40+ min of production from 1 center.

Capela needs to stay in Houston and continue to build into the great player that he has already become.

No one's suggesting Capela should be traded for a Nintendo Switch. Ryno/Ariza/Dekker can't get us Paul George. But Capela? Indy will be listening the moment we mention his name.

Do you trade role players who will never blossom to anything beyond that for a legit superstar? YES

Look at the advanced stats like RPM. They're not that impressive. Again, a super cheap Nene basically gave you Capela's production, except better. This notion that rim protectors are rare and must be kept is outdated.

The Warriors just won with their center depth being Zaza and McGee. It's the one position where they don't have a star and that's not a coincidence. It's by design.

that's bc their real center is DG. no other team in the league has that luxury. there just isn't anyone like him. no comparison

You seem to forget Nene is already 35 years old and how long do you he can sustain this level of performances? Capela has not been perfect but dude he is just 22 years old and already averaging 19+12 per 36. And he also showed a lot of improvement in free throw shooting and finishing around the rim over the course of the season. He's not a finished product and will continue to improve. Big men always take a long time to develop. DeAndre Jordan didn't make a big leap until his fifth year.

And rim protectors are always valuable. The Warriors won despite of their disadvantage at the center position because they have the most firepower ever. But I am sure they could use a rim protector like Capela. I'd even hazard his playing style is perfect for modern basketball with his ability to switch onto dynamic guards.

despite having the most firepower, they don't have a disadvantage at center bc DG turns that into an advantage actually.

it might be a bit vulnerable and their weaker position when zaza and mcgee are in but that's what for 15-20mins if even that in a game. not enough to be a complete liability or game changing as far as losing purposes

My whole point is we found Nene dirt cheap when any other team could've signed him for more money. Cheap centers that provide basically Capela's value can be found. The Warriors got McGee who no one wanted and he was more than serviceable.
