    I can. Some examples:

Sting - He fronts my favorite band of all time, but by all accounts I've heard, he is a complete douche in person. Doesn't matter to me. I still love The Police.

Phil Hendrie - Maybe the funniest man on the planet during his prime (1999-2006), but he treats his fans like dog **** and apparently has had several producers walk out on him mid-show because he berates them so much during commercial breaks.

Calvin Murphy - Loved him as a player and even more as a radio/TV personality, but really Calvin? 14 kids by 9 women??

    Any others?

John Stockton - possibly the best point guard ever, I can reluctantly admire his work.

Karl Malone...no, I can't even admire his work.

Smashing Pumpkins have been my favorite band forever, but from what I've heard Billy Corgan is a douche. I hope it isn't true :(.

If I know of some nasty flaw, I have a hard time enjoying their artistic side.

Even a woman's beauty can be smeared in my eyes due to something I consider bad, like Kim Kardashian....beautiful physical specimen, completely the type of woman I'd go for...and yet, completely vapid socialite w****. No thanks.

    I second - Michael Jordan

Tiger Woods - lost all respect for him over the past few years

John Lydon - can someone get any more pretentious?

Jim Morrison - self-indulgent idiot with a great voice and a knack for lyrics..his poetry was blah though

Ditto. I'm not even a huge rap/hip hop fan and I don't think he's even that great of a lyricist but his music is very entertaining and versatile.

Ozzie Guillen can't admire someone as a person while not admiring their work.

LOL @ most of the responses and the OP being about black people...

To answer the question: Yes. You can. I admire ima_drummer2k's work. :p

I hate John McClain... he's got a face for radio and a voice for newspaper... but I bet he's a GREAT guy.

If someone sucks as a person I find it does diminish their work in my eyes.

I can't fully enjoy something knowing that it came out of a total douchenozzle.

The opposite is true if someone is a good person, I tend to enjoy and appreciate their work more.

I thought this was a thread regarding Ozzie Guillen's comments about Fidel Castro.

Of course. I never want to meet the people whose [insert thing I like] I admire because they almost inevitably end up douchebags.

For artists, I don't care about the person at all. I don't seek out or find interest in biographical details. I prefer to look at the work as a stand-alone.

Sometimes you can't help but know. I know Sting sounds like an a-hole. I still like the Police. Though Sting's solo work is pretty insipid -- not because he's an a-hole, just because he turned into a middle-aged woman as he got older.

Sean Penn and Tim Robbins seem incredibly arrogant and douchy, but are both tremendous actors whose work I enjoy immensely.
