I hate to bring OJ Mayo up as an example, because there's been a lot of pointless debate on him/Harden lately, but he's the best one I can think of for this:

Mayo was ball-dominant in his first year or so, but then Hollins took over and forced him to play almost exclusively off the ball, running off screens etc. Obviously he was uncomfortable, and his efficiency suffered in those two years off the ball and on the bench, but he clearly learned something as well.

Now, in Dallas, Carlisle lets him play on and off the ball, and he's far more deadly/efficient than he used to be. Plus, he doesn't need to go iso to make plays, though he's capable of that if need be.

What I'm saying is, Harden needs to learn to run off screens when he doesn't have the ball, and maybe expand his catch-and-shoot game. It will help Lin by letting him initiate more. It will help the offense by overall less stagnation and sitting and watching. And it will help Harden diversify his already advanced offensive game.

3 more shot attempts per game, 4 more minutes and a much improved midrange game.
