Sucks man. I would never wish this on anyone. I just listened to Watkins on NBA Radio earlier this morning.....he was funny, engaging, and VERY complimentary of the Rockets. He even stuck up for Les when they were talking about him approaching the ref. The Rockets losing exposure is NEVER a good thing.....especially when it seemed like he was turning the corner on his snarkiness regarding the team.

As many have said, he was much better recently & it always sucks to see someone let go.

Timing is not surprising either, he wrote some pro-Rockets articles last week or two.

That may be why BSPN is letting him go. He's not following the BSPN script.

NVM, they are letting 100 people go at once.

I'm interested to see how many other stuff that are writing for teams will get fired...

Certainly not the One covering the Thunder.

    EDIT.

I don't wish job loss on anyone. At least we had someone there with our backs.

ESPN is losing money rapidly and there program of delivering sports is antiquated at best. The talk shoes are stale and not worthy of the hours spent. Plus advertisers are shifting dollars to more social media type sites.

I literally don't know anything about the guy. I do not follow sport's reporting, but I have formed a strong opinion. **** this guy. If you think thats illogical it is, but I just wanted to be angry about something and have opinions.

PS Keith Jones is in amazing playoff form.

That's how ESPN operates. They want all the hate all the time.

I'm sad to see anyone lose their job. I hope he can find a new one soon. Good luck.

I am not sure they even plan to replace him with anyone or it will be some superyoung super cheap intern.
So even if you aren't happy with him..someone is better than noone.

From the layoffs I'm very dissapointed to see Ethan Strauss fired. Regardless of the team he covered his articles were very high quality.
But I see they keep the trash that is SAS no problem.

I gave up on ESPN after they hailed Bruce 'Caitlyn' Jenner as a hero.
I get most all of my sports news now from Bleacher Report.
Only watch ESPN when I have to. Sounds like many others have followed suit.
Can only figure that's the reason for the massive layoff

Been reported for weeks that 100s of ESPN 'talent' to be cut; perhaps CW doesn't count as 'talent'?

All credibility lost when Bleacher Report is your main source of sports news... #notfollowingTHATsuit

Of course they're gonna keep SAS, he makes them a lot of money and is 1 of the most recognizable faces that they have.

    THIS.

After years of dissing us, right before and during the playoffs he started to turn in favor of the Rockets, hence his dismissal.

This was probably the reason behind the emergence of "Playoff Watkins". Calvin probably knew he was going to be let go so he shed the ESPN narrative and posted facts that were at least skewing Rockets.

Are they just going to leave the Rockets beat reporter spot vacant!? Rockets still in the Playoffs. I was wondering why they didn't talk to him at all after the Rockets won against the Thunder.
